The Civ 7 Victory Screen Is My Biggest Frustration

Hello fellow Civ-lovers.

First of all thank you for such a brilliant forum, I have been playing Civ since Civnet in around 1996 and had no idea you were here!

I don't want to talk about the many frustrations with Civ7, despite what I see as immense potential. However, sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I have searched and cannot see discussion on the Victory/Score Screen. To me it is the worst part of the game! I make it through 5 hours of gameplay, finally win and then nothing. Literally next to nothing. So underwhelming and disappointing. I thought one of the big issues from Civ6 was no one finished the game, so where is the reward for my perseverance? Where is my dopamine hit! I want to spend 5-10 minutes looking at my stats, basking in my superiority and immense glory!! I want to look at my stats compare them to my enemies - how many wonders did I build? How many techs? How many units did I make/kill? . . . . Perhaps we can even throw in a few graphs as to really get the juices flowing.

Now maybe I am weird and this is just me or maybe this is covered elsewhere and I am too old and stupid to find where on the forum. Or even better perhaps there is a mod that will make my life complete? I tried searching and couldn't find one.

Interested in peoples thoughts and to see if I am alone on this.

Many thanks.

I strongly agree! This was one of the biggest disappointments for me. I think the victory screen was previewed before the game launched, and I was fairly shocked to see that there was no big "reward" at the end. Especially as the game is marketed with a "history built in layers" ethos, I expected to see more of these layers in the victory screen. The other civilizations you played as, for example, are not even mentioned.

I would love to see a return of the animated global map showing the rise and fall of civilizations in the game. A little synopsis of how you performed each age would also be welcome.

The end screen we have now is thoroughly underwhelming. It's essentially just "that's all folks."

Totally agree, this is a huge miss by the Devs.

There is no Victory movies?
I really enjoy Civ5's live map and Civ6's victory movies. Although for Civ7 they should do some kind of homage to all the various stages of your Empire. Would be very cool.

My favourite victory screen of all time has to be Age of Empires 2. The music is glorious, there is ALL the stats, a graph, designated awards for best player, most trade etc. etc.

In Civ this would be even better, imagine awards for most aggression, most innovation, most diplomatic player etc. Then even if you lose you'd enjoy your part in the game.

I'd like to see that for Civ7. Unfortunately, Civ has a relatively small MP base, so I feel like this type of stuff would go underappreciated.

It’s not really a movie it’s like panning over a painting
Yes, digital artwork with moving layers that mimic a 3D video. I'm not really a fan even of the cut screens from Antiquity and Exploration, but it's better than nothing. I guess if they are staying, then I would suggest shortening them. The videos often linger on awkwardly well after Gwendoline has finished saying her piece.

I assumed this was because the videos were masking some sort of loading that was going on being the scenes. If not then yes please, give me back control sooner (or let me skip the videos completely!).

I was also disappointed. Among my favorite victory features were:
  • Animated mini-map from Civ3, where it showed all of the city foundings, conquerings, and growth (and disappearance) of territory.
  • Rankings of cities and civs (in this case, leaders) from Civ4. These included line charts that were an improvement over the vertical bar charts from Civ3
  • Additional details and line charts in Civ6, some very relevant and some less so. "Number of religions founded", yeah, that's gonna be either 1 or 0.
I miss the "hall of fame" aspect from previous games, where I could gauge my score with leader X this game compared with leader Y last game. Yes, I can see that they have a new system of tracking experience points, so that each of my games with Augustus combine to form achievements for him. Yes, I can see that *all* of my games, with all of the leaders, contribute to my overall foundation score. But did I do better this game than last game? Was I more effective with Lafayette than I was with Ben Franklin? I can't really tell.

IMHO, the animated min-map dovetails nicely with "history is built in layers".

I think there is a way they can figure this out, even if you have an "invisible" score within the game. Obviously there is a point system already. I would love to be able to compare my final score at the end of a campaign with previous campaigns. It gives me a lot of satisfaction as a player to beat a previous score, and it gives me another reason to play the game!

Collecting mementos and "leveling up" the leaders isn't really working for me so far.

Absolutely, the minimap is one of the essentials mods for Civ VI.
But it lacks all the events references to make it truly a glorious experience IMO

If I recall correctly, graphs are coded into the game but commented out because they don't work properly (yet?).
Yep, iirc they mostly work but weren't in a clearly finished state. Hopefully they get added soon - ideally in the next update alongside the one more turn button!

If I understand it correctly, the audio is seperate from the video - the dialogue you get depends on what legacy path you completed, and it plays over the generic civ video. The videos are probably a standard length to make sure they're long enough to not cut off the longest dialogues.

(You can also skip them by right clicking)

Whatever the reason, I find it pretty inelegant and lackluster.

Such progress befitting of a triple-A title that cost an arm and a leg... I bet you the "Buy DLCs" button is working perfectly fine, what a coincidence 😁
