The closest our world has ever come to a complete communist nation was the Soviet Union, which ended 15 years ago. One nation will change all of that, and redifine past attempts at communism by nations with a government of socialism.

Basically, I'm going to be creating a picture-mostly story-line while playing a game and at the same time recieving any advice you folks would like to give me :)

Here are how I'm going to be playing:

Civ 3 Vanilla
Huge Earth Scenario
Conquest Only
Russian Nation
Monarch Difficulty (Yes, because of this I'll need help :) )
And a specific detail I'd like to add is that I'll be playing Russia, and as soon as I research Communism that'll be the only form of government used from them on.

Ok, here's the starting location I'm going to use:

Update 1: Settlment and Foundation

My location after some scouting reveals that I am in the Indian Subcontinent! Yay! Why yay? Simple why yay! Because that means that I am completly surrounded by mountains to the north so if I manage to expand my empire to there for going for a strong economy, I can have a strong defence :)

Why also not so yay? Right beneath the mountains are forests and jungles :(

Anyways, I won't step by step explain what I did and how I got started but...ta-da! I'm started.

Here is the current overview of my empire, I'll explain each picture.

Southern Empire:
Spoiler :

In here, you can see that I sacrificed several grassland tiles by my capital in order to expand 2 cities southwards and have irrigation to make them somewhat profitable, which I think is ok. Other than that, no much in this picture.

Northern Empire:
Spoiler :

As shown here, I can't really expand to the west because of both the desert/forest/mountain mix which would be nasty to clean up, and I'm sure that as soon as it ends begins the land of a new empire.

In the North-East, my workers are clearing away forests to have about 3 towns be created by that river going from the mountain outwards.

While exploring with my scout, he spots a Zulu, the leader of which really wants us to talk, and guess whom about!
Spoiler :

That's right, and even if the price is rather...hrum...Pricey...I always love new contact, for I'm sure the Germans have technology I can use.

And look at that! I was right!
Spoiler :

Ceremonial Burial is a petty technology, but it's better than nothing, and considering that my empire is thriving right now at 11 gold per turn, I can spare a small amount of money like that.

I'll end today with that.

Not a bad start, but remember that irrigation on grasslands won't help at all while you're under Despotism. Also don't forget to claim the incense to the northwest - it'd be a shame if someone beat you to it.

Don't be shy about sticking your cities further out than that early in the game. from your starting position you could have plopped a settler right on the Ganges River (where Bangledesh is) and filled in the gaps in your empire later on. The wider a net you can cast out in the bronze age, before competition for land gets intense, the bigger and more regularly-shaped an empire you'll have for when corruption starts to be a problem.

Update 2: Expansion to the Mountains

Basically I played a TON of turns, set my luxury and science to 10% and just traded all my money for the techs other Civs discover.

Here's how the Histograph looks
:
Spoiler :

Not bad in my opinion, I mean hey - at least I'm not last :)

Here's the North-West part of my Empire:
Spoiler :

I added this part first when I saw the two irons up there, and filled in the gaps soon after, but when land modifications end there in around 10 turns, all the workers will go to my North-East empire

Here's the North-East part of my Empire
:
Spoiler :

As you can see, I'm about to largely settle the jungle and have my East border be with the Iroquois (sp?), other than that, nothing much to talk about.

______________________________________________

Next, I plan to keep up a defensive front on my Northern towns, make harbors in several southern towns and make them galley producers, and most importantly, expand past the mountains.

I should end up getting Republic (no communism yet :( ) By the time the jungle-settlement in the East part of my empire finishes, and by then I can send half of my workers north to connect the large towns made by the large settler-army I'll produce, and keep the other half to finish up improving all tiles in the Indian Subcontinent itself.

And finally, here's how the world map currently looks:

Nice story. I'm interested to see a Civ-attempt at a Communist conversion of the world. ^_^

I'm not going to be doing this story anymore :)

Sorry
