This is the thread for the Council's first PBEM!

Game settings:
Normal climate
Temperate temperature
5 billion yrs old
standard size
restless barbies
random land mass
random water
emperor level.
No AI.
standard rules (i.e. game defaults), except I turned cultural links off. In particular, random seed is preserved, and sci leaders are on.

MTDG2 rules on exploits and stuff.

Seven players, in this order (for each I list the email address, civ, leader name and nation name for reference):
  • zyxy: zyxyciv AT yahoo.com, France, Diva zyxia of The Grand Opera
  • Hasdrubal Barca: barca.hasdrubal AT gmail dot com, Carthage, Great Officer Hannibal Barca of Qart-Haddasht
  • Aigburth: aiggxh AT gmail dot com, Ottomans, Sultan Osman of the Ottomans
  • donsig: metalratguy AT hotmail DOT com, China, Peasant Mao ze Don of Don Sig
  • tomasjj tommyose AT hotmail DOT com with backup petterose AT hotmail DOT com, Iro, defaults
  • Niklas - niklas dot broberg AT gmail dot com, Maya, High Pope Stoned-Maize Niklas of Popa Cornitza
  • Paul: PaulN42 AT gmail dot com, Byzantium, Lady Paula Newman of Pauland

Same play procedure as in the MTDG: please use this thread as turn tracker and absence thread. Send the save by e-mail to the next player in the list. Please note that on the first turn you have to provide your own password.

Of course you are encouraged to open a spoiler thread for spectators.

Also, on the first turn only, you may reject the start position if there are less than 5 tiles visible in the opening screen that can produce at least 2 food per turn after improvement of 4 turns or less per tile (ie excludes clearing of jungle or marsh but includes chopping forest and irrigating plains). Rejection leads to a restart.

turn 0 to Aigburth

The start could be better but no need to restart

crap I'm gone for the weekend.

Thanks but i need niklas's email.

It's in the first post in this thread.

that shows up as following niklas dot broberg AT gmail dot com It won't send.

Maybe it would if you changed the dot to . and the AT to @? :p

EDIT: Also, I've sent you diplomacy orders twice, so you have my address there as well.

I wrote Turn 1 in the title of the mail, but I guess it is indeed Turn 0 that has now been sent to Paul.

If you got as bad starts as mine, I pity you all. ;)

a few more threads won't hurt ;)

Alternatively, people could open spoiler threads in the PBEM forum.

Just let us know where to go to follow along :D

I intend to open one when we (finally) get through the first round...

My start is quite ugly.
If there is no fresh water around, I can't irrigate plains in 4 turn, right? :mischief:
Then it's just two tiles out of nine that can do more than one food per turn... Okay, one does 3fpt after improvement. :ack:
Not sure if we should start that one... :dunno:

For the case my complain is ignored, I played my turn and sent it to zyxy.

Sounds ugly, and you are within your right to request a restart. I assume that's what you want, so I'll create a new start now.

Well I wasn't sure but I expect that one would not be much fun (for me). :(

Spoiler :

If I'm a spoiled child and you guys had similar or even worse starts, please tell me, I'll take the next start whatever comes...

New turn 0 has been sent to Hannibal Barca.

@Paul: your start looks worse than mine. Technically yours still satisfies Aigburth's criterion, though there are only four 2 fpt tiles within the culture radius. So no spoiled child statements from me :).

Mine looked like this:

I'd have killed for your start zyxy. ;)

Really though, mine wasn't all that much worse, but somewhat. No FPs down by the river for instance:
