The crazy runs deep

Apparently some of the people who commented on the site didn't get the joke. Funny stuff.

Some?? I had to scroll down through the backlash just to find one person who acknowledged it was a parody.

Oh, the general public's intelligence is decreasing all right, but the evidence isn't in the article itself...

I laughed my various bits off. I'd quote the funny parts and comment on them... but it's ALL hilarious. Right from when he claims what FIRAXIS 'OBVIOUSLY' stands for, it just keeps getting better.

Well written and beautiful.

Wow that's amazing, gave me a good laugh. And that has to be a parody, looking particularly at "Romans, who were basically Islamists", "Japan or wherever this game is made" and especially at "Diplomacy is for DEMOCRATS" (which, incidentally, will become my new catchphrase for Civ 5)

I can't believe some people actually took this seriously

I did enjoy the fact that at least one respondent saw the close connection between this guys humor & the humor of a show like The Colbert Report :)!

I'm almost embarrased to post this, and actually I'm not sure it belongs in this forum.

I hope you guys all get a good laugh out of this like I did, with a large helping of WTH :crazyeye:

It's definitely a joke, all I'll say for now is that Civilization really does have a statist bend, and anyone who gets most of his history knowledge from civilization will come away with the impression that planned economies are the absolute ideal. IMHO, it desensitizes impressionable children to war and increasing state power.

Ohh, the reactionaries of the country will eat it right up, mis-spellings and all (a third of them won't notice the typos etc.)! Another conspiracy to destroy!

Civ5 could take a 2-5% hit on sales from parents and other potential customers going on a fear-mongering campaign against the game. (Hopefully countered by those who DO get the joke, of course).

This is why liberals should never rest on the knowledge that conservatives are such because they don't know better. Here we have a blatant example of conservative rethoric being bashed by "liberals", who are clearly not smarter than your average conservative (Sarah Palin is not average). Real liberals write parody this good, cuz that's how you make fun of conservatives.

EDIT: Oh, and I just noticed, in Civ IV you can bomb a city, take it, and then build a Mosque in it!

Darn. Why did I buy this? I was expecting to do my civil duty with the release of Civ5.

I wasn't positive until the "I know this from the 300 trailer" comment came up.

Get out, and take your false observations with you.

Sarah Palin isn't average. She's a lot better than most people.
