Welcome to the Deity Challenge Line-up!

- The spreadsheet of all challenge finishers to date has been updated and is available here.
Rules:
Spoiler :

This was a fortnightly event, but the schedule has changed and new games will now be posted every 10 days.

- All the games in this series are set to Deity difficulty.
- User civilizations, maps, and opponents change with each challenge, but the game speed is always set to Standard and the starting era is always Ancient.
- We try for a variety of starts
- This isn't a competition so there will be no predefined victory conditions.
- If you complete 5 challenges, your name will be added to the 'Top Finishers' list.

* We welcome all comments and write-ups and invite you to post screenshots of key moments and the moment of victory (if you are successful), but please use the spoiler tag if you post a picture, make a comment about which civs are in the game, or about wonders, or locations of ancient ruins, etc.

* In short, if it’s information you can only know by playing the game, don’t spoil it for others by divulging this information in the open. Thank you for your co-operation

New - For better view please put your results in bold letters so that the person that updates the spreadsheet can quickly see it.

If you have any comments, questions or would like to submit a map for consideration for future challenges, please send an email to: deitychallenge@outlook.com
*Temporary kept the same mail address, may change in the future - Acken

Please note that submitted maps MUST have map packs disabled, so those who do not have them can enjoy the challenge. To do this, you MUST go into the DLC option from the Main Menu and untick the options ‘Scrambled Nations’, ‘Explorers Map Pack’ and ‘Scrambled Continents’. You will need to do this EVERY TIME you start a new game, or just simply delete the map packs. I suggest you disable these map DLCs on steam directly. Steam will uninstall them, just reactivate them when you need them. Thanks.

I tried to make something that would make early Huns strength important to get a good mid game. It should force many into early wars in hope of a better future due to a lack of terrain. How far your conquest will go is up to you. This should profoundly disturb what people are used to open with.

Hope you will enjoy it and that peacemongers aren't too angry at me :p

Well, depending on the size of the continent, I'd say long sweep in the first half and then building up in the second half. But since I'm currently civving on my laptop which isn't really hi-tech, and since warmongering tends to have really long turns, this might have to be put on hold

I promised a warmongering game when the Huns come around and so this time I shall take up my arms and march into battle! :p

Although the start, while not bad by any definition, is kind of disappointing for "abundant"... I wonder if our neighbors have tastier lands.

Never played Attila, but he seems like the type where you go balls to the wall full on conquest from t20. You just get scout, monument, and horse archers, pretty much? :D

PS: Might as well open Tradition to reach those horses/wheat asap.

Spoiler :
Advised on this map yes.

Made a slight mistake in OP. Map is High seas, not low seas.

I had some sort of bug where I can't raze cities, even cities that weren't original capitals. I assume you are allowed to raze cities that became the capital after the original capital was captured?

Spoiler :
I captured Addis Ababa on turn 6 (thanks upgrade ruin!) and then Harar later while it was Ethiopia's capital, but I wasn't given the option to raze it. Just wanted to post this to see if anybody else had the same problem.

T30ish loving it

Spoiler :
At first I wondered why Acken described this as Medium...

...since I hit an upgrade ruin on T5 and got a Ram. Took Addis Ababa T8. Another ruin gave me Archery...

Had a huge bunch of workers (including 2 settlers) to chop me to some really early HAs...

Then I found Rome. This isthmus is gonna be tricky. America will be a doddle, but Rome may need another strategy if I'm to clear the continent before anyone finds me (assuming no Capt. Underpants).

And this is why I said that civ is a luck-distorted game. I did the same by t7.

Spoiler :

Getting a Ram from a ruin to take a capital on t7 is insane luck.

So I killed somebody by t41. Could have been even earlier, but I was busy clearing a barb camp. Well, that was easy. Now, the question is who to go after now.

Spoiler :
Well while getting a ruin on t5 and killing someone with it is lucky/cool I personally didn't do it and don't really believe my game will feel it that much.
Well, you probably got t98 Education. I am role-playing and warring with everyone. Writing? The Huns didn't write. :p

Spoiler :

Well, hello there... I suppose one of your warriors will be escorting that settler to settle somewhere nearby? I have a ram ready to take down the city before it even gets to grow. (he eventually backed off though and founded far away from me)

Snuck in when his warriors were distracted (going to guard his expo) whoops!

A whole empire fell with a single battering ram. Ridiculous...

Almost died from this DoW however... barbs were a major problem too but once the horses were out everything just settled down.

I suppose Rome is next... (just have to pray he doesn't have galleases and I will simply ram my way through with logistics horse archers); I sold him some iron so a DoW hopefully will inflict a strategic penalty on those legion. Washington does not have a single work boat for crab... I could stop here (Rome is friendly because I bribed him against Washington and he's sending me two caravans) and wait to get a navy but something tells me I don't want to waste too much time... Probably going to GG bomb my way through that narrow choke (might need to research optics) and try to get through. Actually, now that I have civil service... I COULD... sneak some forces in and try to DoW from the other end of the peninsula in a pincer attack of some sorts...

btw, chariots with no horse requirement, doesn't stop on hill and forest, AND takes one less promotion to reach logistics after which they can move after firing allowing them to become mini-keshiks? RIDICULOUS! Much better than Egyptian war chariots by far.

Yeah, very strong. I have super promoted HA's, though I did not pick range, since they upgrade into.. knights? That's disappointing. They should upgrade into Keshiks.

I cleared the continent by t112, and now is the time to clear my mess. First time going Honor, and I just screwed up so much. Not sure how my Attila is going to fare through the Middle Ages... owait. :p I will post a screenshot tomorrow. The new user interface thing is buggy, so I am going to turn to the old one.

T78 The continent is mine

But what now...?
Spoiler :
With 3 AIs out of the way I could try for a perverse culture game, maybe using Futurism? Or just turtle and grow and hope to catch a latish SV? Or build frigates and try to sweep the other continent? No idea who's on there...that's the big thing. Could be Sejong/Pocatello and I now only have 200 turns to win! Could be Dido and she's done the same thing on her continent that I've done. I guess beelining Astronomy is the only sensible choice?

Social policy wise, do I go to Tradition for the growth? Straight into Aesthetics? Full Patronage?

So many choices. Great map!

High see level with +1 AI. The world is small ... too small :viking:
Looks like i see some horses down the river. At least i can have some pastures.
Continents : so no T100 dom-v on this one. Well, i don't think i could do T100 dom-v anyway.
Still unsure if i should build a scout or a second warrior to increase the chances to get a very early Ram.

Spoiler :
Took me a while to beat ethiopia in my game. He had the full combo when I went for him around T60: Protection pantheon, less cities than me and tradition xD.

Overall it took me around 130turns to clean everyone. Meanwhile I developped using a liberty wide approach, wars, unhapiness etc slowed down the game of course and I got a T125Edu. I sadly missed Notre Dame by a few turns around T97 (wanted to GE it). I later went exploration and started going to Navigation which I got T150. But it was a bit late so the game will probably require Battleships. It's now T170 and I've made a dent into Gandhi while I'll get some very late schools around T180. I expect something like T210 Battleships for a T230/240 domination victory.

I got that, too.

Spoiler :
Can't raze either Addis Ababa or Harar. Can't raze New York, either, but can raze Washington, though I don't know if that is normal.

Also, is it normal for city state troops to range 10 squares from the city? There are at least five of them lounging near my capital. Is this some kind of prelude to an attack by an alliance leader?

Maybe Harar is a Holy City. It's probably if you took Haile's capital before he founded his religion.
