I've played this game loads with no probs once i fixed the assassin error, but always as east african tribes. I tried playing as Kanem-Bonou (spelling? in a hurry here...) and it was fine until reasonably late in the game. Ghana established an embassy in my capital, and immediately i got 'civ3c has encountered an error and needs to close'

is this the relative age and uselessness of my pc, or have other people encountered this issue?

EDIT: oh, and congrats on the decade award! you deserve it

Thanks! But that is a strange error. I don't think I ever encountered that or heard of it - maybe it is something specific to your computer?

Probably. We're talking a pc so old it can't handle civ4...

I might try deleting the scenario and reinstalling it :)

Looks like a great scenario, but when I try to load it up, I get the following error message.

    Load Error
    File not Found
    "art/advisors/TN_all.pcx"
    The game will now exit.

Me neither. Try reinstalling the mod and see if that helps.

Are you sure you've installed it to Conquests\Scenarios?

Unfortunately, no. Try reinstalling Civ 3.

I'll try to investigate later today, to see what the issue might be, but because this isn't an error anyone else has had that suggests there's something wrong at your end - either with your Civ III install or with the scenario file itself. It's possible it got corrupted when you downloaded it, in which downloading it again may be the solution.

You've eliminated the possibility of the "folder inside a folder" problem, correct?

I've re-installed Civ III and I've re-downloaded the scenario but the error message keeps popping up.

Look in your Scenarios folder. It should contain a number of .biq files and a number of subfolders. Each scenario you have downloaded has a .biq file, and many will have a subfolder. In the case of this scenario, you should have a .biq file for the scenario, called Desert. (In fact you will have several .biq files, because there are several versions of the scenario.) You should also have a folder, which is also called Desert. Open that folder. It should contain subfolders called Art, Text, and (possibly) Music. (n.b. I'm saying this from memory, so I may have some of these names slightly wrong, but the general principle will be right.)

However, it may be that when you open the Desert folder, you find that it contains only a single subfolder, also entitled Desert, and it's this subsidiary Desert folder which contains the subfolders Art, Text, and Music. This is the "folder inside a folder" problem and it's caused by incorrectly unzipping the download file. If this is the case with you, you need to move the contents of the subsidiary Desert folder into the main Desert folder, and then delete the (now empty) subsidiary Desert folder.

In other words, your folder setup should look something like CivilizationIII/Conquests/Scenarios/Desert/Art etc. Not CivilizationIII/Conquests/Scenarios/Desert/Desert/Art etc.
