A New Age (Turns 1-75)
It was time for the people of the Netherlands to settle and prosper their leader William of Orange had chosen the location and the settlement of Amsterdam was built.
As the leader looked around he viewed his court and thought one day this will be the hub of commerce and culture and his greatness. But first he must summon his council! Turning to his aide and confidant Jacob he ordered his council to be summoned.
The four individuals of the council each had a responsibility and William would take guidance if it suited him.
The first to speak was Carl a shrewd numbers man.
“Your majesty we got the palace built but we need cash to keep it going so I would be looking at some angles to get the gold flowing or at least to stop any leakage settlements are not cheap”.
William nodded in approval. “We have resources and we will exploit them and sell to the highest bidder!” a mischievous smile came across his face.
Peter the Science Advisor took his cue. “Yes to the highest bidder is sound policy your Greatness however we must learn how to exploit these resources around us so that we can develop them. I would suggest we look at developing potters to start and then domesticating some of the animals we have abundance of in the area.” Nervously clearing his throat and wiping his brow.
“Yes technology is important my man and I accept your recommendations proceed immediately.” Then with a wave of his hand Peter was off issuing orders to commence the research.
William looked with a raised brow to his Foreign Advisor Anne, a charming yet strong lady. “My dear I know we are not alone in this wilderness. I want you to go with an exploration party and make contact with who is ever out there. You must promote that we are peaceful yet strong. That we are here to trade and aid those that may need.”
“Very well your Majesty my dispatches will be informative and constant and I will do my best to serve” she then curtseyed and gracefully left the room with Carl.
That left the Military Advisor Anthony a strong articulate individual, Jacob and William to discuss expansion.
Anthony spoke first “Your Majesty we have a group of warriors assembled. There appears no immediate threats to the settlement so I would recommend we expand the in the area around and see what is out there. I will take some members of the Foreign Office to report and update our progress. The men are eager to explore.”
William had moved over to a table of a map and looking intently at the limited detail for some time finally spoke. “I want you to report all movements, assess your situation and if the target looks to big old off. We do not have many men of age to recruit. We must keep the habitants safe and not distracted by threats real or imaginary. Once we get an assessment of the situation we will act accordingly.”
A wide smile came across Anthony’s face and unable to hold back his excitement “The men will on the march from the city immediately!” and then he was off.
Alone in the room was William and Jacob looking at the map on the table.
“Your Majesty I think we are off to a good beginning. We have very capable council and they are very eager to succeed.”
There was a long silence before William acknowledged his confidant’s remarks.
“Jacob you know what it is that I want…. More than anything to be a powerful economic and military civilization through the domination of the citrus industry!!! Yes citrus that is what I want and I don’t see any damn trees for miles. I don’t want to trade for it I want to own it. All of it!!!!!! Muhahuhahahahah!”

The orders were carried out and the council went to work. The army moved to the east of the city and quickly came upon some ruins. However, they were not abandoned! They had just missed making the discovery on their own but instead had made contact with another civilization and stood down from any confrontation.
FOREIGN DISPATCH: CONTACT THE PEOPLE OF SONGAI THEIR LEADER ASKIA. FORMAL GREETINGS NO AGREEMENTS IN PLACE. THEIR ARMY CONSISTS OF THE SAME EQUIPMENT AND STRENGTH OF OUR ARMY.
The army then proceeded to work northwest from their location.
By now the city of Amsterdam was growing the Science Researchers had completed the work on
POTTERY and were now looking at the technology of
ANIMAL HUSBANDRY.
Further development of the army working north they located more ruins and found an encampment of people who had no desire to join them and were rather hostile and showed signs of aggression.
FOREIGN DISPATCH: CONTACT WITH BARBARIAN ENCAMPMENT NO NEGOTIATION POSSIBLE. THE CAMP WAS DESTROYED AND THE GROUP SCATTERED WE HAVE FORWARDED THE FINANCIAL GAIN FROM THIS CAMP. THE RUINS LOCATED NEAR BY WERE UNTOUCHED AND WE HAVE SENT THE ARTIFACTS FOR OUR RESEARCHERS TO EVALUATE.
Upon receiving the relics Peter realized it was a form of writing that could be adopted by the people of the Netherlands.
FREE TECHNOLOGY WRITING
William sat on his stone thinking and listening to Jacob’s reports. The city had built a monument and was working on a shrine. There was talk of pantheons in faraway lands. These unknown people were worshipping Fertility Rights. The army was finding new information from ruins everyday and it seemed to enhance the culture of the people. He must decide what direction he would take his people. He must develop a social policy that will give the people direction and for him to maintain his control.
“Jacob, give the people
LIBERTY” and so it was written the new course of social policy.
3275 BC
By now Amsterdam was growing a number of men were recruited to be a Scouting Party for the King. If they had already met one civilization there must be more. These groups of men were quicker than the regular army and more ground could be covered; besides the BARBARIANS were numerous and camps were being located throughout the area.
MILITARY DISPATCH: ARMY TO RETURN TO AMSTERDAM FOR REST AND SUPPLY. SCOUTS WILL CONTINUE THE EXPLORATION.
This social policy that had been created please William he quickly recruited enough men to work the land. Though sadly there was not yet much to work on the resources were there but how could they be exploited.
Peter appeared before the King with bundles of scrolled papers that spilled onto the table and floor.
“Your majesty we are progressing well this writing technology has been helped. We have developed
ANIMAL HUSBANDRY and are progressing to
ARCHERY. I know this is delaying our resource development but we need to better equip ourselves.”
“Our people are not very happy Peter.” interjected Jacob. He knew the SONGHAI was a much happier people.
William raised his hand in a polite gesture to stop Jacob from speaking further. “A defence is a good offence. We must keep the military up to date. Peter once this technology with the military is complete we must move on to our natural resources. Is that clear!?!”
“Yes your Majesty it will be mining to exploit the quarries nearby and then the sugar fields” Peter said with the tone of an announcement and then wrote the orders down on paper.
2975 BC
ARCHERY – MINING
FOREIGN DISPATCH: CONTACT THE PEOPLE OF ENGLAND THEIR LEADER ELIZABETH. FORMAL GREETING WOULD NOT ACCEPT OUR EMBASSY. THEIR ARMY ADVANCED SPEARMAN. SCOUTING PARTY COULD NOT REACH RUINS BEFORE THE ENGLISH. EXACT LOCATION OF STATE UNKNOWN ESTIMATED FURTHER NORTH. CONTINUE TO DISCOVER MORE BARBARIAN ENCAMPMENTS.
One day when William was sitting on his stone in his empty Throne Room there was a rushing of footsteps. It was Jacob.
“Your Majesty, they found it they found it!!!!”
“Found what?!?” exclaimed William has he rose from his stone. “Another civilization, more ruins, what man did they find?”
“Citrus!” a winded Jacob exclaimed. He had run straight from the Foreign Office he needed to sit and catch his breath but there was only William’s stone so he thought better and sat on the floor.
“Heavens no it’s too good to be true!” William took the paper from Jacob reading the points aloud. “Two large groves, on the coast due north of Amsterdam, many a day’s journey, the area is open for expansion. This is excellent news Jacob we must secure this location at once.” Both men proceeded to the table to look at the map.
2875 BC
A library was now established in Amsterdam and knowledge and culture was slowly increasing.
MILITARY DISPATCH: SCOUTING PARTY UPDATE RECENT RUINS DISCOVERED HAVE GIVEN US NEW WEAPONS WE ARE NOW HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO BE OFFENSIVE HAS ARCHERS.
FOREIGN DISPATCH: WE HAVE MADE CONTACT WITH THE CITY STATE GENOA THEY ARE AN INDEPENDENT FACTION BUT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING INTO OUR SPHERE. UNFORTUNATELY CLEARING OF A BARBARIAN ENCAMPMENT NEAR THEIR BORDERS WAS DONE BEFORE OFFICIAL CONTACT AND NO RECOGNITION.
William was again on his lonely stone and was reading the reports there was a natural wonder located near the citrus called OLD FAITHFUL and the city was growing from the immigration of people of ancient ruins who had been nomads.
He was pleased that the technology was advancing
MINING-MASONRY but this idea of faith was intriguing reports had come of another unknown people worshiping the SACRED PATH. He must speak with some elders to look into this further.
FOREIGN DISPATCH: CONTACT PEOPLE OF SIAM THEIR LEADER RAMKHAMKAENG. FORMAL GREETINGS NO AGREEMENTS MADE. MILITARY CONSIST OF SAME UNITS. LOCATION NORTHEAST OF AMSTERDAM AND APPEAR TO BE EXPANDING WEST.
Jacob was now with him and they discussed that the pasture for horses has been created but we need to learn how to ride them for military purposes. It was time to develop the Social Policy further and the
REPUBLIC idea will help with production so let it be enacted.
MILITARY DISPATCH: THE ACTIONS OF THE UNITS ON THE FIELD HAVE BEEN RECOGNIZED BY WILLIAM. THE GROUP OF WARRIORS WILL NOW BE RECOGNIZED HAS THE 1ST Army of Orange. THE SCOUTING/ARCHERS WILL BE THE 1ST Recon.
The people were now asking for INCENSE and how happy they would be if they could obtain it. It was time to look at trading with who we have met. There was also news of another unknown people worshipping the DANCE OF THE AURORA. It was time to bring a faith to the people.
William went to the elders of the settlement and spoke on what faith the people could turn to or at least keep them distracted thought William. The room was filled with smoke from the peat burning in the fire that was situated in the middle of the Great Room. There were many men sitting around the fire and then finally the oldest and wisest of the group spoke.
“We the Elders have given much consideration and seeing the resources that have been provided to us let the People of the Netherlands worship THE STONE CIRCLES.” And so it was done.
William was actually quite pleased that the natural resources were finally being exploited but he must get those workers working harder and ordered that more men be recruited.
2125 BC (turn 75)
CALENDAR- SAILING was to be researched.
The Netherlands was the richest nation of all the peoples.
