So I've been playing this game multiple times a day for months, no issue... then this shows up today. The only thing I can think of is I noticed that Civ5 was downloading something today (maybe a small patch? I have no mods). Now I've tried reinstalling the game from scratch (deleting all configs/etc prior), I've tried verifying the game cache in Steam, I've tried changing some user configs I found in Google searching for this problem, tried removing anything else running and selective start-ups... nada.

Game runs fine in DX9 but now if I open the game in DX11, it crashes with this instantly.

PLEASE HELP!

.... so the bug is fixed. it was a Steam beta bug. Soon as I left a different game, Steam asked to install n update and said it fixed DX11 games not opening correctly.

Joys of being in the beta - false alarm!
