Does GOTY edition mean the end of DLC? - I can't seem to find any notification at all about new DLC.

And... Have there been any news _at all_ about an expansion pack? - I sure hope the DLC model doesn't mean that an expansion will never come out :/

Probably there will be more DLC, since the GOTY edition doesn't include the Korea & Wonders pack.

Nope, it doesn't. Besides what headcase said, there's already been another GOTY for europe earlier this year (before the denmark DLC).

No. As said after the first GOTY in March there were four more DLC not included, after the second GOTY there were two more DLC not included. So it doesn't mean anything, actually.

Probably after the next DLC is out there will be another GOTY out, this time including Korea and WOTAW, but excluding the next DLC :p

If we're really lucky, it'll be an add-on, then later there will be a GOTY version of the add-on that has ALL the DLC.

Or they'll just lazily release a Gold or Platinum Edition with all the DLC :p

It has been quiet for some time. I'm guessing they are working on some bigger expansion pack type DLC.

An "expansion pack" can be "DLC". Not sure why people think these are mutually exclusive. DLC is a distribution model, not a content model.

That's true, but if they were to do something like say, change the way City States behave, or add espionage or religion, it could be DLC, but it would probably cost more than a couple of wonders. Whether they call it DLC or an expansion pack is largely semantics; probably better for them to call it an expansion pack to placate the DLC haters, and of course to better charge more money for it.

Well, when Civ 4 Gold edition came out it also wasn't the last.
(FYI: The Gold edition was Civ4+warlords)

Well it is almost reaching the usual 2 month time span for a new DLC, maybe we will see something new in a few weeks

    That's the thing. There's:

    -Content
    -Price
    -Distribution

These are not linked in any way. DLC does not set content or price. DLC is a method of distribution.

There's no reason we couldn't see a "traditional" expansion pack with Civs and game features available for download for a similar price. Of course, the similar price probably won't happen, and we don't know if new civs will stay separate from a new "expansion" or not (I bet they will).

My hope is they are working on a big patch and some "expansion pack" game features as well.

Yes and no. DLC is by definition "downloadable content." An expansion may be distributed digitally but usually also gets a stand-alone retail release. Secondly, DLC is content added to the base game, whereas an expansion is a completely separate base game (in the case of Civ IV, this primarily meant a new dll) that happens to require the previous base, to which further content could also be added. So an expansion and vanilla would require separate patches whereas all changes to dlc usually just get included in the vanilla patch.

So while you might argue the semantics of that fact that because an expansion could be distributed digitally, it's still not really correct to call it DLC. Along this, DLC and Expansions have very distinct meanings in terms of what people expect. I mean you could call all the DLC that's been released "expansions" as they've expanded the base game. Would I seriously say that Civ V has had 9 Expansions already? No. If you want to use the distribution definition as the sole criteria for defining DLC then you can call Civ V itself DLC as it was content you downloaded (regardless of if you got it retail cause you needed Steam).

They'll keep going with the DLC. If people still buy them, they might even release more long after civ 6 comes out.

Nothing yet, the most hype currently in that topic is caused by the topic here about the Panama Canal and Three Gorges Dam art there is in the files.

Sorry, but I disagree with all of this. Why are you limiting DLC?

DLC Civs so far are most certainly not an "expansion pack" but that does nothing to stop them from releasing such content in the future.

Steam games get downloadable "expansions" all the time.

Give me one reason why Firaxis can't make a game changing "expansion pack" available for download? By definition, that pack would be "DLC".

The last time we heard of anything about patches and DLC was when Korea and WOTAW were released, in late July, early August. We're more than a week through October and still nothing. Anything to be announced will be probably announced soon. Like one week soon.

I anticipate more DLC being announced soon. I'm hoping for another double Civ pack, I generally don't care all that much about the scenarios, but seeing my games populated with the same old Civs gets old fast seeing as I play without Mods/Extra Civs. (I want the steam achievements, and like seeing consistency in all of the leaders being animated)

Their silence means they are either working on something big, or have given up on the game altogether. I think we'll hear something big coming soon.

    September 21 - Babylon (Release)
    October 25 - Mongolia
    December 16 - Spain + Inca
    March 3 - Polynesia
    May 3 - Denmark
    August 11 - Korea

If you look at that, it's been as late as three months before. I'd say wait until December to be sure (plus, December DLC is more logical in case people want to buy it as a Christmas gift).
