The Expanse -- sci-fi tv series

I have watched it, and not as sinister as Aliens. Closer to reality than Star Trek. Keeps warfare (corporate greed) as the only reason humans advance as a society.

I bought the books long time ago and I haven't read them. I can't make myself watch it before I read them. Gotta start soon.

Hard to believe this is the same channel which created Sharknado, two-headed shark, sharktopus (see a pattern? :) ) and similar stuff a while ago :D

That said, some parts of the show are cringe-inducing, particularly the UN people and the indian couple. The husband - thankfully only a sideshow- is just a comedian, and the wife - main character- is done in a cheesy way imo.

I've read all the books that are out so far, and have seen the first season of the show... it's a pretty good adaptation, the first season only covers about the first 2/3 of the first book although it includes some things we don't see first-hand in the books (for instance foul-mouthed UN grandma doesn't appear until book 2).

Lots of nice little touches, like how the birds in low-gravity asteroid colonies are lazy bastards who only have to flap their wings a little. Or how stupid-hat detective guy has a mobile phone with a cracked screen and is consistently too cheap/penniless to get it fixed or replaced.

That detective is easily my favourite character in the show :)

Wasn't he also the star in Battlefield LA?

No, different guy - that was Aaron Eckhart, also known for his role as Harvey Dent/Two Face in the Christopher Nolan Batman series.

This is Thomas Jane, who is known primarily for his roles in Stephen King's The Mist, the first Punisher movie, and the HBO series about a high school coach turned gigilo called Hung.

Love the Expanse myself. I agree it has noir elements, but don't concur about the Star Trek angle - Trek is far more utopian. It reminds me more of CJ Cherryh's work Downbelow Station, and the focus of the political maneuverings. Looking forward to season 3, but that won't be until 2018.

You mean the second Punisher movie, don't forget the 1989 version with Dolph Lundgren!

I stand corrected! :D

I can't say I've liked any of the Punisher films, though I like almost all of the stars individually. I'm curious to see what Neflix does with the property.

But back to the Expanse!

I would never have guessed he was the lead in Mist! Wow, he lost a lot of pounds.

Anyway, a cool actor :)

^Well, he was my clear favourite in season 1, yet

Spoiler :
only saw 2 eps of season2 by now, but he has become pretty murderous :o
I can see him killing Amos and his old police superior too

It's too bad that they couldn't do all of book 1 in the first season (due to budget reasons, they couldn't do enough episodes to do it justice), the episode of season 2 that corresponds to the end of the book would have been one of the greatest season finale ever.

Do you mean
Spoiler :
The Navu missing Eros? I did think that the detective guy was a goner!

Well,
Spoiler :
season 2 episode 5
was crap imo. Did this have to turn into a space opera? :(
Spoiler :
not another alien-human fusion... I really hoped this show would keep its noir element, and now it is about superbeings and crap.

Spoiler :
The mad scientist implies that they weren't really dead several times, and Miller and Harden notice that the already dead people don't get contaminated. It made sense.
