Welcome!

These scenario files for CivIII v1.29 will enable players who already have installed the add-on's of the CivIII GotM competition hosted by CFC to start new GotM-style random games or design their own scenarios based on these add-ons.

You cannot play the Scenario without having the GOTM Mod installed. The basic idea of the GOTM Mod is to upgrade 2001 Vanilla Civ3 to the measures of PTW. This achievement made it possible to let participate both Civ3 players and PTW players in one competition. As you may expect, there are included equivalents of the Civs that came with PTW, and even a few more, complete with leaderheads graphics, diplomacy dialogues, UU's.

Additionally, there is a bunch of small changes (you might or might not call it "improvements"). Among others, there are:

Flavour units for Civs and Barbs, historically bounded 2nd unique units for some civs, an elaborated system of faster sea movement, and even some changes based on Civ3Conquests rules, e.g. a defensive bombard feature of Archers and Longbowmen or the new unit support of Republic government.

Virtually all of the changes are documented in the Readme of my Scenario and in the edited Civilopedia.

All additions of the GOTM Mod are implemented in a way that leaves the option unaffected to play standard games.

In the beginning, the additions of the GOTM Mod were accessable only through the official starting saves. This restriction falls with the GOTM Mod Scenario you can download below.

It became surprisingly easy to install the GOTM Mod with AlanH's GOTM Full Mod Installers for Mac and Windows. It's a single file that contains all the stuff you need to play, and puts the right files in the right place in one installation. Thanks, Alan, for your efforts!

The Full Mod Installer also contains the GOTM Scenario, recent Version 1.1. This means, if you are installing Alan's Full Mod Installer, you automatically have everything that you can download, here. Future updates and new stuff will be marked as additional when providing something new that the Full Installers do not include.

If you want to find out in detail what makes up the GOTM Mod (and the GOTM competition in general) please have a look at gotm.civfanatics.net and the related subforum. Detailed advice is available via the GOTM Reference Thread of the Civ3 GotM subforum.

Of course, comments, suggestions, help requests, bug reports about these scenario files and their contents are welcome. Please give information which game version you are playing.

Something to consider - this mod goes some way towards bridging the gap to PtW for Mac users, as it provides several extra PtW-equivalent civs and their UUs. :goodjob:

I've mentioned it in the Mac forum, so you may receive some visitors from over there. The only fly in the ointment is that Mac players don't have an up to date editor, so they can't open the 1.29 bic to create their own scenarios. We may need to find a way to produce an editor-friendly version compatible with the 1.21 editor for them if that's a requirement.

@ Alan: it's a shame how mac-users are treated. it would be great if my little project could help the poor situation a bit. i haven't seen it that way, yet. so, i could try my best.
but a 'mac-conversion' as described in your post would probably mean that i need to have a 1.21 editor!? i don't know where to get one. I was looking for 1.21 patch for pc, but didn't find it in the patches section. you posted a mac map for ainwood in this thread and i can load it in my 1.29 editor. but if i'd save it it's 1.29 again, right?

@ drivebymaster: err .... no, not really. would not make sense as this scenario doesn't contain units, civs, or a map by itself and i don't want to foster the impression it would.

You misunderstand me I think. Your mod is already great news for Mac players. I think we can find a way to allow Mac players to convert 1.29 scenario files to 1.21. I don't see that as your problem. In fact there are already initiatives brewing in that direction - not specific to your mod.

Re. Drivebymaster's request. Here's a shot of the player setup screen that indicates the rich set of civs that bluebox has made available for random game play:

ah (*lightbulb switching on*) okay, alan, you want to convert the file. i hope you succeed, and it feels good that the mac players are so happy with the mod.

thank you for the screenie, a nice way to illustrate the scenario

thanks to the information and the help of demiurge i was able to locate a bug concerning the swordsmen upgrade path in the [civ3] + [civ3mac] v1.29 version of the gotm mod scenario. due to a missing upgrade flag only civs with a uu/flavor supplement of the swordsman (like Khwarizmia, Rome) are able to upgrade their swordsmen to medieval swordsmen and the respective supplement/flavor units.

this will be fixed in the upcoming version of the scenario. all swordsmen/archers will be upgradable [ptw]-style, then. furthermore, the civilopedia will contain entries for the new civs. i hope i can provide the next version end of the week. keep on telling me about your problems.

thank you for your support, demiurge & caveneau! :ninja:

Now the downloads got a little bit bigger, but I hope it will contents will compensate you:

- Complete Civilopedia support for v1.29 + ptw;
- A few minor problems with the v1.29 modpack fixed;
- Some more serious problems with the ptw modpack fixed;
- added support of Luxury Icons in the City Screen.

For v1.29 users there are two packages: the gotm_mod pack with all important scenario and Civilopedia files included, and the optional gotm_mod Convenience pack with additional graphics for the City Screen, e.g. fixed Luxury Icons.

Great mod Bluebox! I have a bug though (not sure if it's just me) - trying to load the leader head for Spain causes the game to crash. I remember it doing this for some GOTMs too, wasn't there something that fixed it?

You need to have eight copies of the Spain.flc file in \Art\flics. They should be called Spain.flc, Spain1.flc, Spain2.flc .... up to Spain7.flc. These are installed by the Mac GOTM23 mod installer, but I don't know whether the PC ones do it.

I am so excited about this and I really want to play it... but something isn't working right. I am using the PTW version and have all the gotm files installed and successfully played gotm31 so I don't think the problem is there. I was trying to set things up so that every new game I play will be in the gotm format. I start new game, all the proper civs are there on the set up screen so I know it's at least partially working. I hit the button after making my choices and it starts configuring... black screen pops up with the little window saying how I am the leader of this tribe and they have placed all power in me blah blah blah, the mini map appears and then I get a "this program has performed an illegal operation" message and everything shuts down. I can't even restart the game after that and have to reboot the machine. I backed up the proper file so I'm able to easily switch back and play as normal so that's good. Help please!

at least that good news, peglegasus! i assume you cannot play the gotm mod as a normal scenario, can you?
maybe we should communicate via pm for in depth debugging - doesn't seem to be that 'oh yeah, you've just to ....' kind of bug.

sorry it doesn't work for you, yet! :(

The scenario works! Man, this is cool! I just can't get it to work so that all new games are gotm style... but who cares! I can't wait to play! Now if I can just get the kids to bed...

Thanks so much for this great toy. I'll let you know if I have any other trouble.

Good news, again :thumbsup:! the fact that it works as a Scenario points to an error that just came up to my mind. I would like you to test this gotm.bix file! Please insert it again into your setup as you did before when you tried to converse your ptw to gotm ... and please tell if it works for you, then! If it does I will instantly update the download and we fixed a bug together! :)

Thanks to the help of Peglegasus :goodjob: I stumbled into wrong information in the readme file of the ptw Version. It is not possible to converse! All readme files are updated in v1.0.1. no contents altered. Except from the readme's the downloads are the same.

Phew, not too easy to provide a consistant product! :blush:

@ peglegasus: thanks for your support! :) you can still try out the alternative file, it's up to you, but my guess is: still not working :sad: .......

Thanks bluebox for this great job!!!
:goodjob:

I was just thinking of a PBEM GOTM style game and was working on a simple scenario to use all of GOTM's changes in the standart rules.

But my scenario is nowhere near what you have done, complete with Civ-o-pedia entires and all the funky "cracker" civs and units.

:thanx:

I really admire

:worship:

This is a terrific idea. I really appreciaite the effort that went into it.

First thing, I went for the Mongols and those amazingly fun mounted archers. When I Bombard a town with either Ordu or Bagatur, it will work fine if citizens are killed or an improvement destroyed or artillery barrage unsuccessful. Apparently, when a defending unit is damaged, the unit shows no hits and if I continue bombarding it kicks me out of PTW back into Windows. If I "clear" whatever it is by using another unit, I do not get booted out of PTW into windows, but the defending units in towns remain intact. Defending units OUT of towns can be "hit" seemingly normally.
