The Gamecube Thread

I just happened to see it on GameFAQs on the news section on the front page a couple of days ago. Now, darn, I can't find it...

Is War of the Monsters on Gamecube? If it is, then I love Gamecubes. If not, Gamecubes are not bad but not good either.

BTW, I have no game consoles. (PCs rule! ;)) But my friend has a PS2 and I play War of the Monsters on it.

C'mon, Puglover. PCs stink; but this isn't the place to discuss it.
And thanks for the link, Silverflame.

Judging a console by one game is not a very good idea. You'll be limiting what gaming options you'll take. And MajorGeneral2 is right, PCs do suck :p (but discuss that in the Console Games Thread not here)

Anyway, Pokemon fans rejoice, they are making an actual 3D RPG for the gamecube that will most likely be combined with the Colisieum. Might even be online too. :)
Donkey Kong fans also can rejoice as even if Rare's jumped ship, DK is still going and Nintendo is making one. :)
Unfortunately, I lack the links, so I guess you'll just have to trust me on that. But the Wind Waker sequal is deifnately real, here's another link if you're skeptical.

Now why is all this info coming these few weeks after E3 I do not know.

Hmmm....:p ;)

I think they should make an online version of the SSB series.

IIRC, Rare is still making games for Nintendo, just not exclusively. Of course DK is still around, it was Miyamoto's first game (series).
This just proves that Nintendo doesn't care about American conventions like E3.
@anonymous4401
They might. Online gaming (via consoles, at least) is not very popular, though, so it may be a while.

Actually, soon after Nintendo kicked Rare out, Microsoft came in and bought Rare 100%. So now Rare may as well be first party, like HAL is to Nintendo.

And at PlanetGamecube in their mail bag about E3 someone asked why Miyamoto didn't show Mario 128 when he had confirmed it earlier. One staff member (can't remember who) gave an interesting speculation that showing games really early and publicly leads to the public judging it based on a few screenshots. Look at Wind Waker, where tons of people were pissed off at cel-shading and never treated the game fairly and focused on all of its down sides. Look at Mario Kart: DD, where at GameFAQs people were complaining about the lousy graphics, being oblivious to the fact that higher framerate means more in a racing game. Miyamoto saw all this, and pushed Mario 128 back from the press conference to the roundtable, then decided not to show it at all. I think that's the same case here, they won't show or confirm these games really early or else they'll face even more criticism than they are now. They'll probably wait until a few months before the release date before actually showing it.

@anonoymous4401
That would be great, as well as an online mario kart and starfox. But at GameFAQs flames are a rollin' as people are complaining about Nintendo's online stance. Fact is, Nintendo is reluctant to spend billions like Xbox live and whatever Nintendo does in the online world will be overshadowed by the Xbox live anyway. Plus, Iwata claims that people buying a game, then having to pay a monthly fee to pay for it is just immoral. It seems as if Nintendo's looking for a better way to play games online.

My cousin brought over Soul Caliber 2 last night, he imported from Japan. The game is freaking sweet! I can't wait till it comes out in August. The moves are fluid and button mashing seems to still be intact ( a good thing IMO), also Link has some pretty cool moves. Can't really speak too much about the hidden characters as the mission texts were in Japanese so we couldn't do those but the returning characters look great and the new ones are definetly interesting... especially Necris, going to need to get his moves set down.

Nintendo won't be releasing any 1st party online games until online games become "mainstream". So figure when XBox has 50% of their customers with Live or Sony with 30-35% network adapters, which since they will be including them with the ps2 soon, is more likely. But the 8 player F-Zero via lan does sound awesome.

I used to like Rare, too.
Good idea on Miyamoto's part. People have a bad habit of drawing early conclusions, so its best to wait until the things practically done to show it.

Nintendo goes online! :D

http://www.ultimategamez.com/extras/specials/gamespyinterview.shtml

It's not the old Gamespy tricking the cube into thinking it's LAN either, it's really going online. And what's more is that it is FREE! I knew Nintendo was up to something like this :D

Then for some bad news: I heard Nintendo cancelled Spaceworld 2003. May be a rumor because I saw no sources yet, but if it's true, then that means that Nintendo must have shown everything they had at E3... :(

The first part's really good news for those interested in online gaming. It'll be interesting to see how this works out.
I wouldn't trust the second bit without a good source, though. What would be Nintendo's motivation? They obviously didn't show everything at E3. We'll just have to do some 'watchful waiting,' I suppose.

I read on gamefaqs that Nintendo was cracking down on importers, which was really pissing off people in Gamecube General.

Wasn't it that black gamecubes were always available?

Oh yeah, that was crazy. Maybe black gamecubes aren't available in Europe or something. Anyway, people in the Gamecube General are pissed off at Nintendo no matter what they do.

The Spaceworld news doen't sound totally conclusive yet, though I wouldn't be at all surprised if its confirmed soon.
As for the GBA news, why doesn't Nintendo just release several colors initially? Since people aren't going to buy a system they already own for a color, it makes more sense to give more options at release.

My last post was wrong. I thought you were saying Gamecubes themselves, but I think you were talking about the Gameboy SP. In that case I know little about that.

Because that wouldn't be Nintendo ;). Nintendo always gives out the good stuff in bursts, not all at once. That way, everything can get it's individual hype.

Oh, I was talking about how Nintendo was cracking down on European importers. Doesn't matter at any rate, no matter what Nintendo does, people at GameFAQs complain about it.

Gamecube hacked!

http://www.vgen.net/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1055730652&archive=

It's just terrible. Despite all of Nintendo's efforts to combat piracy (the small disks, disks spin backwards, etc.), the pirates still managed to get through. :( At least the software isn't available yet, and Nintendo's working real hard to stop it. And piracy is a everyday thing for PS2 and Xbox
