Over two years later I believe. My initial purchase:
$199 purple cube
$50 Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (Should have waited the few days for Smash Bros.)
$35 for extra black controller
$20 extended warranty (yeah I'm a dumbass)

No comment on the warranty, Cedric. I got my GCN the day it came out; that's why it was $199 (w/ Luigi's Mansion, bringing it to $250). But hey, I've had more time to enjoy it than the rest of you. :p

Well, at least you didn't have the pain of just missing out on a deal. It's one thing to pay $200 for it and then a year or so later see it for $150 w/ a free game. It's another to buy it for $150 and no free game in the two-week or so period between $150 w/ a free game and $100.

But no big deal. I'm more amused by it than mad. But anyway...

I got Metroid Prime yesterday, and it seems pretty good, but it is freaking HARD. I haven't even gotten past the first level after a few tries, but last time I got very close, and I think I'll make it next time. The thing I don't like about it is you don't get to save very often, so, instead of being able to save right before a hard part I might have to continue on to the hard part after playing a half hour long easy part, then die, then have to play that half hour all over again, etc. etc. But it's good that it's challenging; it's been a while since I got a game that actually tested my skills. (Although it may just be that I'm not used to the game, instead of it actually being hard.)

Whoa, if you think the first level is hard, you may as well return the game :p j/k

I spent a few tries on that as well. It's simple enough, just don't panic from the time limit and try not to get lost. And that grapple part is a bit confusing. I didn't get too far after that (only to the varia suit boss), I never really got into the game.

While we're talking about how much we spent for our cubes...

For $150:
One Platinum Cube
Two Platinum controllers
Metroid Prime

Add:
Two Memory Card 251s ($40)
Super Mario Sunshine and SSBM ($50 each)
Two Wavebirds ($30 each)

This was all around February/March.

Yeah, the part that messed me up at first was the first boss, but then I figured it out, then I got lost during the time limit, but after extensively viewing the map I got that straightened out, and then I got confused with the grapple part, but I think I've figured it out. Hopefully after completing the time limit part I'll be able to save...

Yeah you will, don't worry about that. Samus's starship counts as a save room ;) Save rooms aren't really a problem, there's enough of them around. Just be prepared to scan a lot and search every room extensively so not to miss anything. (At least that's what I do, although usually I miss stuff anyway ;) )

I own the original Metroid and Fusion, but I've never really cared for the games.
Silverflame, what's the point of doing a lot of scanning if you miss stuff anyway? ;)

So at least I'll know a bunch of the creature's weak points and such. But I never seem to be able to find any missile/energy tanks. I'm not a very good exploerer :p

I'm thinking of getting a GBA SP, to play FF Tactics Advanced... Anybody has any advice, recommendations etc for me? :)

Also, would a close-to-30-year-old look weird playing a GBA SP in public? :p

Actually, no. :p The SPs almost look like cell-phones, and I would feel no shame at all playing it in public, and neither does the majority of people.

I got FFTA, and I like it. It's definately not the best FF to get introduced to the series with, but it's pretty nice. There are times I wish it moved a bit faster, and it's music is good but repetetive. I also need to get into the habit of saving before a battle. :p

I've already played FFX; not my first exposure to FF. :p

Maybe it's so in the States, but here I'm certain I'd look weird. And it's a pretty new product, in Singapore.

They're selling pink, light cyan colors too.

Do you have any problems with the SP? How does it handle?

In any case, I've gone ahead and bought one, along with FFTA. :) Now charging up the beast... :D

I picked the cobalt color one; yeah I'm conservative. Pink and light cyan disturb me for some reason while onyx doesn't look that healthy either... :hmm: :)

Nintendo isn't shy about releasing some oddball colors, that's for sure. But what's your first impression of the thing?
I haven't played FFTA, but it uses a similar battle system to Tactics Ogre, which got old and tedious fast. My opinion is that even though it tends to work okay, it should be abandoned for future games. Anyone else agree?
FInally, I think this thread should be renamed the "Nintendo Thread," since we're no longer on GCN only.

Yeah, it's one of those gimmlicks that shouldn't be overused. Things like the tilt sensor in Kirby's Tilt 'n Rumble and the sun sensor in Boktai: The Sun is in your Hand are good examples of these.

I tried that a long time ago a month after this thread started, but it didn't work. How do you rename threads, or can only mods do that?

@K-D
I've heard complaints about paint scratching off the platinum ones, and dust specs in the screen. Those people at GameFAQs compalin too much. The only complaint that should affect you is that the headphone jack isn't included. (Then again, I don't even have an SP, so I shouldn't be talking :p )

BTW, I see you've moved back to your Chinese "cultural mood" again ;)

XIII if you get a GBA SP, please, MAKE SURE YOU BUY A CASE AND KEEP IT IN THERE! I consider the GBASP to be like an adult version of GBA/GBC because it has a flip screen and it's not made out of durable plastic. I got one and just dropped it a few times - there's scratches all over the face of the SP.

Also, you'll really be chagrined when you can't use your own headphones in the GBASP, you'll have to buy their's and use their stinkin' product. I want CHOICE; I don't want to buy their ones, but I gotta unless I get a regular GBA.

A difficulty with the GBASP is that it's very flat. If you own a laptop or have typed on one, you might have experineced problems because the darn keys are too flat. To make it so sleek and be able to flip it closed, the B, A, start, select, and arrow keys are straight flat. It makes it harder to play for long periods =/

Boy, I miss those days where dropping my GBC meant nothing - it was still intact and had no scraches on it after dropping it.

I'm used to carrying a handphone; shldn't be too difficult - it's not my main console, just something to divert me on weekdays. :yeah: :p

And I wouldn't touch the 'normal' design with a ten-foot pole too; so it's SP for me all the way. :p

Only mods can chg thread titles, after an amt of time. You can try PM'ed Matrix - this not being my forum, I won't interfere. ;)

I don't need or use a headphone in any case... ;)

Is there any issue with playing a game while charging the battery? Also, can I charge the battery while it's still half-full? Will that shorten the life-span of my battery?

I do find changing the battery may be a bit hassling, with that screw in place though...

The main reason I got FFTA was 'cause I was playing Disgaea on the PS2, and had gotten into this genre. I understand that Althus or whoever created this was also responsible for Tactics Ogre. ;)

I like this though - since I used to play chess in my schooldays. :)

Right now, I've more problems getting used to the small screen, and 'odd' buttons than the game.
