Hi guys, I’ve decided to make my own story now. After 2 years of playing civilization I feel I am now experienced enough to compile my own story. So here are the settings:

    World Size: Huge
    Barbarians: Restless
    Map Type: Continents 70% water
    Climate: Normal
    Temperature: Warm
    Age: 5 Billion Years

The Civilization I’m playing are the Byzantines (Just love that dromon). All I know is one thing: Persia is in the game (I put them in there). But the rest are random. I’ve put all 15 civilizations in the game, so this will be a challenge.

Anyway, Difficulty is Monarch. I’ve never played Monarch before so this will be a challenge. I usually play Regent. AI Aggression is Normal.

    Victory Conditions are:

    Domination
    Histograph
    Conquest

Big list, eh? I’m hoping to go for conquest but I’m happy to win by Histograph or Domination. I don't know why I called this "The Golden Empire". Couldn't think of anything else.

    I will update soon.

Oh and to be honest, I don't think I'll win this game. So please don't tease me if I lose .

This Start was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. And this was the first role of the dice! Incredible. 4 BG, a river and coast. Btw that’s also a BG under the settler’s foot.

    This is my start location...
    Spoiler :

“Empress, we have discovered the perfect place to settle.”
The queen Theodora was pleased by the surroundings.
    “Good, we shall settle here.”
“ Empress, what shall we build?”

“We shall produce two warriors; one to explore and one to defend our new city.”
“Then, if our city is big enough, we shall produce a settler to make another city.”
    “Yes, empress.”

Next turn when the settler built the city, things look very good. Two more BG, one wheat and a goody hut, right next to the border. Also, there are some more rivers to the South and East, as you can see in the picture. I wonder what the terrain types in the dark spaces are (I hope they’re still green)… Also note that whenever something happens like a military unit destroys a barb camp or enemy city, I will report it. But in the mean time there’s nothing to report!

    Empress, What shall we research?”
“We shall research Iron Working, our scientists believe we can extract a resource called iron and use it to make strong warriors. However, we must have the resource connected to our cities via road. Now, I have a city to rule”.
    “Certainly empress.” *Bows Down*

(15 minutes later) “Our worker is now building a road on the BG square. It should be completed in about 3 turns…”
“Excellent, we shall build a mine after the road to boost our production.”
    “Yes, empress.”
“When should we pop the barbarian camp?”
“When our first warrior is built”.

Aceman, shouldn't Theodora's advisors call her mistress instead of master? :hide:

I agree with your military advisor! :goodjob:

And yes, calling Theo "master" just sounds wrong...

Ok, I'm going to fix that up. I though I should call her something other then master, but I'll fix that up now.

@Sashie VII: I've also been following your story along. Just not enough time to give any suggestions.

A few turns later: “Empress, our road has been completed. Not only do we get an extra commerce from it, our troops also move three times faster when they are travelling it. However, the road ended on a river, so our troops will need one turn to pass through the river. We need to build some sort of structure to help us cross through the river.”
(Queen Theodora) “Is our newly trained warrior exploring yet?”
“Yes, we have reports that the warrior also met some friendly barbarians in a goody hut, kindly enough, they gave us 25 gold.”
“Excellent, this will help our economy greatly.”
Yes, it certainly will. Also, Iron Working isn’t getting any lower even at 100% science.”
“We shall not turn it up to 100%, yet. Turn it to the lowest possible, then wait a few turns, and try again.”
“Also, we may have to build more warriors.”
    “And why is that?”
“Because, our citizens are getting a bit cranky, we need Military Police.”
“This town is tiny, and our citizens are cranky already?”
    “They want infrastructure, Empress.”
“Tell them to wait until we have built at least 5 cities.”
“Yes. Also, there is a way to help solve this problem.”
    “And what’s that?”
“If we can acquire some luxury resources, that might make some of our citizens happy.”
“Since when do citizens get luxury resources? Only queens like me, get that”.
“Well, if we can get a lot, then it will be enough for all of us.”
“Fine, as long as I get just as much as they do”.
    “Yes, empress.”
“Also, empress. I have some minor news. Our warrior has just located some game meat. And the river goes further down.”
“Is that all? The warrior has left two turns ago and this is all he finds?”
“Empress, our warrior is barely out of town. It does take a while to cross the river.”
“Fine, but if I don’t get something interesting like a luxury resource within the next 10 turns then I’m not going to be happy.”

Nothing Interesting happened this turn. No pictures.

This was very surprising. The earliest time I ever saw a civ was like 2000 B.C. And in this turn, at 3600 B.C I have already met a new civ! Well I didn’t exactly meet them yet. But I’m going to. Also, There was lots of nice BG near the other civ. This will give them a boost in production, unless I settle their first. This will probably be the hardest game I ever played. The AI gets free units on Monarch level (I think). So if they declared war, I would lose. And also, in their territory, there is a mountain. It might contain Iron.

I just checked in the editor and it appears that on Monarch level the AI gets these bonuses:

Number of free defensive land units: 2
Number of free offensive land units: 1
    Additional free support: 4
    Bonus for each city: 1
    Max Government transition time: 4
    Cost Factor: 9
    AI-to-AI trade rate: 140

But the good thing is 2 citizens are born content. I was expecting only one.

    END OF PART THREE

(edit) I just had some problems with the pictures, but it's fixed now.

This is going very slow. I didn't think it would take this long just to play a couple of turns. Ah well. I've got an update soon...

I suppose I shouldn’t have put my warrior right in Incas city, but I wanted an audience right away. I don't know what I should do, should I attack, or retreat? I don’t want to lose this game, but the city is undefended and my warrior is standing right next to it. But then again when I think about what the advisor said (The Incan Forces Outnumber Ours…) then this might not be such a good plan.

As you can see in the Civ Assist screen I outnumber Inca in everything but cities and military. Anyway, some more things have been sighted like BG and more rivers. Oh, and Tobacco. Btw in one of my screenshots it says spearmen 5 turns. Well I’m not exactly building a spearmen. I’m going to switch to settler if there is enough food.

Also, does anyone know if the AI gets a free settler on Monarch level? Because they already built a city, which seems too quick to actually wait for the city to go to population 3, and then build the settler. As you can see in the last couple of updates, I have made more pictures and less writing than usual. But once the game actually gets underway, I will have lot’s to write about.

So, comments and suggestions are appreciated.

“Empress, we have calculated that we can build 2 spearmen until the city is size 3.”
    “I have better plans.”
    “What’s that, empress?”
“Let us build one spearmen and then one settler, so the settler will be trained on the same turn as the city turns to population 3.”
“There might be a risk in doing that, empress.”
    “Yes, continue.”
“Well, if the settler is trained before the city hits size three, then there will be a one turn delay. And also, if we build mines, the production will increase, which results in the settler getting built first.”
(Theodora) “We could build two spearmen and then a settler, but if we choose to declare war now, then our city will be at risk before the spearmen is built.”
“Let’s think about this one, empress.”
    “Fine.”

(Edit) I forgot, I located a luxury resource, silks. As you can see in the top right hand corner of the explored territory. I think I'll just build a road and wait untill I build my settler.

IMO you should definitely raze Tiwanaku. Raze it, then run and avoid further combat

That early in the game, razing a town will make the AIs give anything once they're willing to make peace. Do they have any tech you don't?

Hmm, Yes thay have 1 tech that I don't have. I was thinking of capturing rather than raising before. But now, rasing seems like a better choice.

I'm just a bit scared if I lose already.

If it only have 1-pop when you capture it, it will be autorazed.

Seriously, I think that unprotected town was such a boon for Theodora :crazyeye:

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Do you think I will be able to defend my empire though?

Yeah, I suppose I should take the advantage while I got it. I never thought there will be undefended towns at Monarch level.

Check every turn till Incans are willing to talk, then make peace a.s.a.p. Most probably that'll be before any of their units reach your borders ;)

The fact that the town is undefended means that the Incans got it from a hut. The AI will ALWAYS escort its natively built settlers.

Personally, I'd attack, raze, retreat. Forget about the settler until the war is over. Just build spears. Once the war is over those spearmen could serve as ready-built escorts.

IMO Theo shouldn't build spears, since they're expensive and defensive.. :mischief: What about a warrior and settler?

I disagree on attacking that town. He's inside her borders. If he declares now, it's ROP-rape. Step out, declare, then see if the town is still undefended. If so, autoraze it and send your warrior back towards your own territory to defend. It'll be a while before any Incan units get to you. They'll talk peace before they reach you, I think.

I have never ever ever had that work on Monarch. They not only have a production bonus, but I've ovbserved them cheating by getting free defensive units in cities. If he declares outside their borders, the AI will have a turs to get units there, buy them, draft them illegally, whatever. If it turns out there is a unit in there, then you're resigned to fighting a war against a more powerful enemy, with an extremely weak defense, and you won't even have gotten the city you intended to get either. That's too risky for contemplation. If you're going to attack, you need to do it NOW, and I'm not entirely sure I'd do that either.

Against a human, yes, but humans don't cheat...
