Seeing that the peace emissaries to Milan have failed, and having lost Trieste, the Doge orders the garrison of Venice to flee to Udine, the former Papal retreat. On their way out, they burn the city to the ground, destroying the Great Library in the process. Lubiania, further inland, is also destroyed. A medieval infantry (1/4) sallies forth from the ruins of Venice, and destroys a Milanese swordsman.

Milan was furious at the destruction of so much knowledge contained within the ancient treasure, however, it seems in Venice's haste to retreat from their capital after brutalizing their own people, they made a horrendous tactical error. The Horseman unit from Trieste walks unhindered into Udine, the last city under Venetian control. With nowhere left to go, Milan accepts the surrender of the remnants of the Venetian army. Doge Bowsling is decapitated and his head put on a pike over the ruins of Venice for all to see who was responsible.

Venice is no more, and Milan shall work on rebuilding Venice to try and recapture some of its former glory.
