    Update: 14th November - Screenshots

    I think its about time I showed some updated screenshots. I apologize in advance for any typos or broken bits as things are still under construction.

    I have placed them in a spoiler box to prevent annoying those with slow connections!

    Game setup screen. The crappy text was a quick thing I did to test the screen and has since remained unchanged. I will likely replace it with something more serious.

    These screenshots show the general look of the main UI. The tooltip for the units displays as much useful info as possible. It will also append info if units are stacked so can can see all info in one tooltip rather than cycling through each one.

    All Soviet units at game start have accurate names and location placement. In this case, the 32nd Tank Division was deployed east of Lvov and its make up was mostly of newer tanks. The first bar represents the units leadership level and the second its combat experience. The personnel and equipment totals are also accurate for the table of orgnaization & equipment (TO&E) this unit had at that time. Supply line indicates where this unit gets its supplies from to heal.


    When hovering the cursor over a city, you get a detailed overview. In this case we are looking at Leningrad which is a strategically important city.

    It has a high strategic point value and quite a lot of population and workers (pop is as close to historical but obviously not perfect!). The city is connected to the main rail hub (capital city which is Moscow).

    It also lists how much resources the city creates and consumes along with the military equipment created (numbers in red next to equipment indicate how much production was lost due to resource shortage. In this case the shortage in aluminium (caused by the -1 bauxite) means that 33 less light tanks (LT) were made and so on.

    The last section lists the modifiers that apply to the region this city is located in (which is also named Leningrad as that was the historical region name). The industrial factor increases as more production-type building are added to the city. A higher industrial factor means more production of resources and equipment. Agricultural factor is similar but applies to food production. Personnel factor indicates how much the city can conscript. Conscription resistance factor is the potential for revolt if too much forced conscription occurs in this city (forced conscription is a process that can be chosen like research and wealth).


    I have shown early versions of the production resource tooltip in the past but here is a newer version. Pretty self-explanatory from the info shown.


    Left-clicking on the production resource brings up a summary overview screen if your really curious as to how something is being created or consumed. The '00000000' bit is a bug I have not fixed yet. The bottom city list shows all the cities that produce the resource along with the building(s) producing it.


    Like the rail production overview, this one shows info relating to aluminium production. Here you can see how the penalties are impacting production.


    One last photo showing food production. In this one you can see the multiple buildings contributing to food production.


    Heres a screenshot showing the 'raw' resource tooltip for bauxite which is causing all the production headaches.


    This screenshot shows the new 'unit panel' UI (bottom left). It now displays the unit name, stats, promotions and supply levels.


    This screen shows the underlying map regions highlighted. Each region can hold 1 or more cities, and how much of a region you hold determines how the mod calculates production and conscription. Unfortunately I am limited to the existing highlighting options Civ 5 provides. If I had my way the tiles would be solid colors.


    Victory conditions are one of the things I am still trying to flesh out. I am trying to prevent a beeline approach to players capitals and instead force the human player to hold and capture as much territory as possible during each year of the campaign. The strategic points shown are closely aligned to the cities the Soviet player would need to hold or capture if closely replicating the campaign. This prevents the human player pulling all units back to the Volga and then simply striking the next year. Losing too many cities too fast will result in a 1941 failure ending the game.


    This screenshot shows the tooltip for the equipment pool items. In this case, the cursor is hovering over Medium Tanks (MT). As the tanks require aluminium for key motor components, their production is being impacted by the shortage.


    The city screen has also been heavily modified. Aside from the obvious icon change, players can no longer rush production (I am pretty sure you can't buy tank factories off a shelf!).

    Choosing production now shows the production resources or personnel/equipment required to produce the item. In this case, the lack of bauxite mining means the player can't construct a smelter. For those curious, changing the production choice does refund the resource or equipment consumed.






    Next up is a selection of pedia entries (still a work in progress so please excuse typos and broken KEY_TXT)


    Now we move on to the various overview screens (accessible via the book icon at the top left). This one shows various projects in the game. Some help production, other allow better units and upgrades.

    Projects will only trigger if the historic date has been reached and the player has accumulated enough XP points using a specific class of unit. The XP requirement forces a player to build and use specific units if they want better upgrades.

    The photo also show a rail branch project that, when completed, builds a strategic rail-line between cities to help you move units around faster.





    These screenshots show the wealth of information available in the modified city overview for each of the 4 tabs. I am trying to cater as much as possible for players that like to know whats happening under the hood of their game and make decisions based on figure and stats (yes, my EU4 bias has creeped into this mod :blush:).




    Similar to the city overview screenshots, the region overview provides a lot of info specific to the regions. Thus you can figure out how critical each region is to the war effort.


    Finally, a screenshot of the battlefield showing the southern front facing off against Romanian and German troops. Nothing special....just like the purple team color of Romania :p, however I do hope those guys in Hanko restablish their supply line otherwise they wont last long (lose HP per turn)!!!

    I look forward to seeing more modern wars with this system!
    Like the WW2 Chinese/Japan Theatre, the Korean War and the Vietnam War!

    This is part of the objective and challenge in creating this mod (and why it has taken time). I am trying to make the code as modular as possible so that it can be recycled into other scenarios.

    The 'expanded' production system has been rewritten around 7 times and each time I find a way to make it more streamlined and modular.

    For those curious, here is a snapshot of the 'building supply system' file (apology for the misalignment as cut/pasting into this thread shifts things around a bit). As you can see it is all SQL based and no hard-coding is present in the Lau side code. I don't expect the average user to tamper with this file, but veteran modders could tweak things if needed.

    Actually I am working on the mod as I type this. Unfortunately a series of real-life events outside my control has caused numerous problems with time and effort. What used to be a a few hours a week on this mod has been reduced to maybe a couple of hours a month!

    There are sections (mostly cosmetic) that are not complete, but right now I am trying to playtest the scenario and fine tune all the variables.

    I can't commit to a date for alpha testing, but hope something can be released this year if possible. I am happy to open up the mod to a select group of alpha testers soon, but it would be on the condition of finding bugs and tweaking variables, as opposed to having fun and being challenged.

    Seasonal weather is THE MAIN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT missing,
    especially on NORDIC & EASTERN FRONT.... so I cannot wait...!!!
