How often you go? for how long?

I go twice a week for about 90 mins a go... been going since September last. A lot fitter and noticably more muscular, although still a long way form being 'muscular', if you know what I mean

I use a home gym about daily. I go about 30-40 minutes in the morning, and I try to do at least 20 minutes in the evening. Usually mostly cardio with some weights sometimes.

was going to start going today but then I stayed up all night reading FML not writing a paper and I'm likely to injure myself with this little sleep

I was doing an hour a day when i first moved into college, jsut for something to do.. then they unbanned me here...

Why would anyone ever pay a gym membership when everyone lives on streets they can run on (or get a treadmill) and can get their own weight sets for a heck of a lot cheaper?

Well it has increased of late, since I can now use my right hand again. Considering the injur y I am lighting so much lighter than before, but I realised that would happen. I have increased from two 30 minute sessions with a PT, with a 20minute walm up on cardio machine bike, treadmill and such, at the gym and now I am going hopefully every day, except Sunday and do at least 40 minutes and once my hand is strong enough again, I will be doing a few classes at offer that require lifting. Also soon I might so some classes that are more aerobic orientated, so I can get fit and lose weight.

VRWCA, it is also about motivation, since you get see people who are very fit and strong and it motivates you to do better. Also you do see lots of pretty girls, which is also motivation.

I dont have a swimming pool or resistance machines in my house

My gym is a free part of college.

I go around between 3-4 times a week...where I'll either run, lift weights, or play pick up basketball. I'd go more often, but the gym is kind of far from my apartment, and I'm only allowed to drive there on sundays.

I run and go to the gym alternately. Running is about 39-42 minutes unless it's one of those rare occassions that I choose to do intervals, and gym is less specific but tends to be for 40-50 minutes. If I'm not exhausted by then I haven't been working hard enough.
Gym membership is free, which is why I go. I sometimes mess around with a dumb-bell at home, but it doesn't really count.

Maybe they don't have room for the weights or maybe they just have a hard time exercising at home.
I do agree somewhat. I've never understood people who go(drive) to a gym just get on a treadmill or a stationary bicycle.

Never. I ride a regular bike in the warmer months, and a stationary bike in the colder months (usually when I'm watching tv). I've never seen the point of paying a gym membership.

I don't have a gym membership, but I do Aikido (martial art) 4 hours a week. I try to do about a 30-45 minutes worth of pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, and shadowboxing every other day. Also I inline skate about 3-6 hours every week with my brothers and some their friends, they are on a team and actually train for races, I just try to keep up and have fun.

Overall I stay in pretty good shape, but I'm skinny and don't put much weight or muscle:(

If you want to bulk up, you're gonna have to go with some kind of resistance program. Calisthentic exercises (a.k.a. isotonic exercises) are scientifically known not to stimulate muscle bulk. just saying.

I'm at the gym at 6 for 20-60 minutes most mornings for lifting. Usually I only do some light cardio on a bike to warm up, I'll either go running for real cardio, or most days I end up playing basketball/soccer/badminton anyway.

Well, although I get my gym membership for free, if I didn't, I'd be willing to pay for it for a few reasons -

Better selection of weights/machines than I can afford.
No need to use room in my small apartment for gym stuff.
I move fairly frequently, packing weights into airline luggage isn't really convenient.
Cute girls at the gym.

Although I'd never pay for a gym membership for just cardio, other than perhaps a pool membership.

I don't do well at gyms. The few times I've gotten in some semblance of shape it's been alone in my room doing push-ups & sit-ups & using weights on my own time, with my own music. :)

Just started about three weeks ago. I make an attempt to go two times a week for two hours (I go to two days a week for an hour a day for Karate anyway)

Gyms have alot more than weights.

Saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, pools, showers, women (lol), mine has a spa, basketball courts, raquetball courts, a climbing wall, etc, etc. It is a palace and I <3 it.
