I've seen many language threads here in the past about what people are learning(some independant and in school), what people are fluent in, and how many languages they speak.

My idea for this thread would be for those who need clarification for certain language rules or such, could ask people here at CFC(we seem to have quite a range of speakers). People that don't mind helping, could just post what languages they are fluent in(can help others in) and what they are learning/would need clarification in. I'm not sure how many people would really be in need of this, but it's nice to know there is someone you can ask if you really need to.

I don't know if anybody cares for an idea like this, but personally I am looking for people I can PM with questions about French and Swedish whenever the situation arises. Just to have someone there to help if I get stuck, or just to try and communicate with, and have someone fluent point out my flaws/errors. Sometimes learning a language independently can be quite difficult - and feedback/correction is required.

I don't know if anyone cares for this idea, but I'm still looking for any fluent French/Swedish speakers that would be willing to assist me if needed.......:crazyeye:

I am fluent in Swedish so look no further.. :)
Why this intrest in Swedish, a language speaken of no more than around 9 million people?

I'm decent at French, feel free to PM me. I'm sure there are better people for it though. :)

I'm fluent in Spanish.

Number one reason: I just want to.:goodjob: I also hope to travel to the Sweden/Norway area sometime in the near future, and I believe I heard(I'm not sure) that most Swedes and Norwegians can communicate fairly well?

I'm also almost a pure-bred Swede, and I feel it kind of mandatory. :D

yep french is my mothertongue. I live in switzerland so i speak german (badly) and correct italian. English, i try to learn it in these forums.

:goodjob: That's great. If you have any questions about English feel free to PM me and I'll help you to the best of my abilities.

Norwegians and Swedes understand each other rather well, depending mostly on what dialects are spoken.

PM me any questions you might have for the Swedish language, all though I understand Norwegian I can't say I think I might assist someone in learning it... ;)

At least you can understand Norwegian with only speaking Swedish. That's kind of like learning a language and a half just by learning Swedsh or Norwegian :crazyeye:

As far as I can conclude (I am Dutch), Danish and Norwegian are dialects of the same language. Swedish rather similar, but just a bit more different. Can you confirm?

Some words are perfectly easy for a Dutchman to understand. Prisutdelning and Bruksanvisning (yes, I do have an IKEA closet) come to mind.

Furthermore I am familiar with the Swedish words:
Lansen (lance)
Draken (dragon)
Viggen (viking)
Gripen (griphon)

I generally understand Norwegians far more easily than Danes. All three languages are very close related and, iirc, origin from what now is Icelandic.

Regarding Dutch, I can sometimes understand full sentences when I see it written but spoken words are way more difficult to understand.

iirc "viggen" means "thunderbolt". It is not a commonly used word.

You are correct on the other words there.

Yeah, same here. Reading Swedish stuff can be rather easy, but listening to it is complete abracadabra.

The way you guys prounce the G....... ;) .

I speak and write fluent english, swedish and finnish. I know enough german to navigate internet sites and comprehend the jist of what's written. I was thinking of learning full german but I figure there's no point since I don't have any interest in german culture or the people. I'm 1/4 german though. And listening to a finnish person talking is like arserape machinegunnery for the ears.

Where did you get that idea;)
I wish there was no other language than English...

 @ lifeblood

and I just remembered someone compared the Dutch language to someone gargling with yoghurt.

FRANCAIS :
Je n'avais pas remarqué que tu parlais français ! Comment ça va dans le canton de Vaud ? :) En ce qui me concerne, le français est aussi ma langue maternelle, je suis parisienne.

ENGLISH :
I didn't realized you were a french speaker ! How things are going on in the Vaud County ? :) Personally, french is also my mother tongue, I'm actually a parisian girl.

You can learn how to read and write that language here in the forums, but maybe you should try listening to an English language radio station on occassion. That could help you learn to speak it, not just read and write it.

Maybe you can get CNN or BBC on cable/satellite TV, or maybe a BBC radio program. I'm not from Europe, so I don't really know what all you can get.

i speak and write english but so do most people here. I'm trying to learn Spanish, so if there are any fluent spanish people i would appriciate it if they could direct me to a busy spanish speaking forum
