Hey I just wanted to say thanks again for all the help I have been getting, I really appreciate it. :) I have been playing a few immortal games, on my own time, and I finally beat one, thanks to the tips I have been getting! Anyways i still want to get better so I hope to get a few tips with this next game:

The map is standard size, normal speed, no huts, no random events and fractal.

Our leader is...

Great UB, not so great UU, IMO.

And now for the start

Interesting start we have some gold near by, which is great for a financial leader. Now I was thinking of SIP and using the capitol to pump out settlers/workers its not a great spot for the capitol but it will have to do. As for techs I was thinking agriculture - AH

And of course here is the save.

Why would you settle in place? Moving either one northwest or west will keep the Corn + Pigs and give you Gold in your capital BFC, which is always a wonderful thing (gives you a shot at the Oracle or fast Horseback Riding for a rush etc).

I moved the warrior and

Spoiler :
found a third gold...this is already looking a overly good start

Wow that is a whole lot better, I guess I had my mind set that I would have to grab the gold with a second city that I didn't even think of that.

Move warrior 1NE. I'd be tempted to settle 1S purely for river access which is always a great thing :)

If nothing special on the north, I'd be tempted for south.

Moved the warrior as suggested and...

I'd hate to agree with georgjorge but this really seems too good. But I already started the thread so...

1NW for first city?

And doesn't that lake give me a fresh water bonus? Besides I am expansive so I have a bonus to health already.

I was thinking more for TR's (and levee's if the game gets to it). Plus, I think you get some more riverside cottages in this way which is v. good for FIN, the golds can be settled by your future 2 cities. Because it's gold, you can even ignore building roads initially and focus on chopping out settlers and workers ASAP. If there's an AI nearby, you want to get to the gold very quick.
I would go Agri->BW
Mine the pigs and farm the corn

Edit: Agree with pigswill, 1W is also pretty strong IMO. Although I think you lose 3 riverside cottages.

I'd go 1W for the gold, keeps fresh water, river access is 1 road away (unless you're really stuck on building a leveee later in the game).

Definitely settle 1W. Regular grassland tiles are still really strong for a Financial civ once they are developed, not that you need to rush that in this case. You won't have a lot of forests to start with, so I would probably go Ag -> AH then decide on how you will get your defense started.

Decided to settle 1W and went agriculture -BW.

Spoiler :
Later I met Jao and Asoka.

And wow is Jao close!

So this is what I have explored so far...

I have just switched into slavery, what should I tech next? And where should my 2nd city go? I have an Imp leader to one side and an ocean to another, I might get boxed in quickly. Should I rush? And if so with what?

Edit: I am thinking of teching hunting real quick for barb defence, I don't have any copper but luckily the Unique spearmen don't need it.

Which is why the Holkan is a much better UU than you give it credit for, especially on higher levels - all the resourceless early UUs are pretty darn good.

Looks like a fun map, gonna shadow this one

EDIT: 2nd city 1E of the 2 golds. PH city for +1h, gold/crab/GH within first border, so no need for early culture + not in the danger for barbs.

Jao is a nice neighbor if u don't tick him off but very expansive. I think your 2nd city should be near the pig, silk, marble area. Once u block him a bit u can feel in the gaps. Its ok to rex a couple cities fast due to gold. But try to block him off from going into your territory. The oracle and pyramid seems like some good wonders. Don't forget to fogbust near the oceans.

However, don't think barb defence is needed on this map.
More important is rushing those settlers out ASAP.

Im generaly not in favour of blocking, but in this case I would agree; that's a good spot too. I would prechop 4 forests and go for pyramids after stone is hooked up (after next boarder pop). Not too rich in food, but the extra happines would be nice as you lack happy resorce.

I gave it a bit of a try until 1000 BC...

Spoiler :
Still not convinced that a straight up Horse-Archer rush wouldn't have been better. After chopping out two Settlers, built Oracle for Code of Laws then self-teched Mathematics, aiming for Civil Service. Three cities and room for three more.

Joao will be claiming A LOT of land here, I hope to bribe one of the others onto him to slow him down somewhat.

Ok so fogbust, don't worry too much about barbs, and block jao. So if I shouldn't worry about hunting right away then what shpuld I tech? Masonsry then make a run for priesthood for the oracle?

I wouldn't bother with the oracle just yet. You should block him off first. That's more important. Then you can backfill at your leisure :) Also I would go for the mids because happiness is going to be an issue from what I see.

I don't think I will have too much of a problem with happiness, with the 3 gold, and a silver that I found, plus I will be converting to Jao's religion. So i played to 1600 BC and...

My main priority was to block him off so that was the point of my first two cities, just whipped a monument for a quick border pop to completely block him off. I have one settle ready to found my next city, where should I put him?

Here is a bit more of the south:

Edit: Oh and please comment on my city placement, as thats something I need to work on.

2W of the Silver.
1W of the plains hill to grab the 2 golds.
1E of the stone. Get some more workers up to build cottages on the riverside and this city can work the cottages for the capital.
1E of the cows.

Thats what I can see just based on the map :)

City placement seems fine to me :)

Edit: Not enough chopping forests at the capital though I think.
