The Immortal Pacal

IMO: 1 city 1SW for the pigs + 1 city 1N of weat would be optimal.
You gain fresh water, river placement and dont really loose anything. You also open up a spot for crab/gold*2 city

Ok thanks :) I still want to know what I should do about jao. We could easily do a cur rush, but I think it would be fun to mace rush the guy, probably won't work but still would be fun

I would....

Spoiler :
Go worker farming with Joao, then destroy him with Horse Archers.

Damn....Asoka has a lot of land, but once you take out Joao you will be in good shape

1 AD update

Ok so its 1 AD and I just got Philosophy :) was able to get the mids and oracle in the same city and got CoL with the oracle.

So here is an overview of my cities thus far:

Spoiler :

Zoomed out so I could get it all. As you can see I have only 6 cities, working on more though... not sure why I am building a monument...

Still have lots of space to expand too. :)

And the techs...

So right now I am teching civil service -> Nationalism

Try to get a workboat out as soon as you can and just set it on auto-explore...it can be rewarding.

Do you have a plan here? What are all the markets for?

I'm assuming this is a continent map with just u 3 buddhism lovers :D. Its up to you but u have to decide on your victory goal. What do u want us to help u with? Conquest,Domination, Diplomatic, Culture, or Space?

The markets are to help keep my economy afloat when i attack jao. I should have a good cuirasseir lead and it would be a shame to waste it.

What do you think would be the best victory to take?

Your capital is a bit small right now. All the other cities should have lots and lots of farms so that you can whip cuirs like crazy when it comes to it. It also doesn't have enough cottages for beauro. The 2 it does have are barely developed. Which is why I suggested a city 1E to the stone to work cottages for the capital while you work on infra.

Go paper after cs to get a map of your continent before anything really.

You have room for 2 or 3 cities peacefully right now. Move that spawnbusting warrior 1E to check of there are any fish in the ocean to work.

You can go for ap cheese. Build ap under taoism, switch back to budhism once its built and then one missionary rpm each ai and win

Yeah the capitol is small because i was using it to make workers/settlers I'm letting it grow now. The AP was already built by asoka or jao, can't remenber which.

You really need more scouting (Missionaries do it very well).

I'm also not convinced of the Markets, getting to Curs faster (building Wealth) or whipping out more of them (building Settlers or growing cities) is better than whatever you need to stay afloat after the Cur rush.

Other than that, I'm impressed that you managed to block off Joao very well while at the same time building Pyramids (not sure they are really that useful here though, I didn't have happiness problems and there's not too much food for lots of specialists) and Oracle.

For comparison (ATTENTION: BIG SPOILERS) I've included my 75AD save. You can see that I have less cities - 6 is what I see as needed for a good attack date - but am ahead in tech. I also made the HUGE mistake of not getting Currency, thinking that one of the AIs would research it very soon as I'm used to Deity tech speed. But I'm researching Nationalism and they haven't done it so far.

Played until 1 AD then I resigned.

Spoiler :
Well, it is one of those games you can easily get 8 cities peacefully, no real danger for war and can jag wait it out for cuirs or cavs. But I tried something different and I did ok until Ceasar dowed me. Jao had plent of land and started building all those wonders and he had twice the amount of cities than I had. So I attacked with swords and cats. Took 4-5 cities but he refused to cap. Then Ceasar butts in and demands gold which I have little to spare. But as Ceasar is a freak he just dows me and 2 wars will hamper me so much. In hindsight I should have paid him off :(

@ osibiath -

My save in comparison. No real spoilers!

Spoiler :

In comparison to your save. I got philosophy around 100bc and I bulbed this. Civil service in 1ad, I had already teched aeth, lit and music (200bc) and built Glib in my cap. I skipped mids. I used a golden age to get this far. I double bulbed edu for 250ad while teching Nationalism. I then headed to gunpowder. Bulbed lib with a GS. Traded for MC/HBR/Compass/ calender/monarchy.

I settled my cap to include the 2 northern gold resources.

Used Oracle for COL.

Cities - Pigs/clams (1e of pigs)
Settled on silver for fish/horse
Stone/fish/ crabs. 1S of the stone.
Wheat/gold city. 1N of wheat.
Cows/fish city. On coast next to cows.
fish /hprse city top corner of map.

I missed out on the marble which slowed down my Glib. I used my wheat city to pump out settlers. whip/chop. I used the cow/fish city to get me 2-3 workers.

My capital was at least size 9-10 come 1ad.

My science around 100ad was about 200 beakers per turn. Using wealth I was pretty much running 100% science so I built no markets.

In terms of your save. Ditch the market places. You should be closer to 70-100% science if you run wealth. Chop that forest. I can assure you mine was 70-80+ all gone by 1ad.

If you have COL why are you building a monument??? Run an artist for 4 turns and build a workboat somewhere.

Have you got enough workers??? You need 8/9 or so for 6 cities.

Building the settler in your capital at 1ad is a poor choice. All that forest you could of chopped it? Did you use the forest and stones to speed up mids?

Overall not having the 2 gold in the BFC has probably slowed you down a bit.

Sorry I am in the middle of moving so I haven't played a whole lot lately. I have a late attack date, however I was able to get a stack of 20 cuirs in a few turns (went a little crazy with the whip) plus an abundance of siege units. When I get the time to I will attack and post the results.

Played this up to 1500ad.

Spoiler :

My curs rush seems to have ended with 50 or so curs.

I capitulated all Ai on the land mass leaving JoaII with 3 cities, Indians with 4. JoaII and Indians had quite a lot of units.

The French and Japanese gave in more easily but I had 40-50 curs by this point.. Japan hit rifles as I started my assault. I took one of his cities and he capitulated.

Romans and Hammy lefts. Romans have 10 cities and slightly lag in techs. Hammy has 6 cities and is his vassel. Lots of ships needed now. Hopefully before Romans get rifles.

Of course I could spread religion to Hammy and take AP win.

Up to 1625ad and domination win.

Spoiler :

Took 10 or so turns to move stack back to the coast near Romans. Whipped 13+ galleons and 5-6 frigates and dumped 40-50 units near Roman's cities.

Quickly took out 7 of his cities with cavalry/curs. He would not cap till I made a ceasefire with his then free vassel who was set free after 6-7 of his cities fell. Eventually got the domination win after the Romans cap'd.

Got a 212k score but for some reason the screen capture just shows a black screen.
