the idea of winning the scenario with a big battle sounds very cool (if thats what u meant - i'm not to sure)

maybe one all powerful civ could have the one ring and all the other civs would be weaker but have the chance to fight together against the powerful civ

indeed , in War of the Ring u would need a military victory and in The One Ring u would just have to get ur One Ring units to Mount doom.. (still gotta figure out how that would work)

right now im working on Special Resources , i added Mithrill (dwarves) Pipe-Weed (Hobbits/Halfings) Special Horses (Rohan) and Oliphaunts (Harad).

any suggestions for other resources?¿?

quite simple.. the one who brings the one ring to mount doom wins :)

where the one ring could perhaps be an "army" (as in the fellowship protecting it at all costs)

Could the space victory be used to that end? As bringing something to a location is not a possibility - as far as victory is concerned.

If someone wanted/could be bothered to take the (long) time to change all of the images, the spaceship stuff could be converted into a map with each key location appearing as it is 'built' to sort of follow Frodo and co. on their journey until completion. If that makes sense...

since when this is all finished, the new editor will be out (hopefully) we could use it.. shouldn't be too hard i believe..

Military victory is easier to mod for and probably more fun to play. Also, if it was multi-player or one could play the bad guys, Ring to Mt. Doom would be way to easy to prevent since, unlike Sauron, we would know what was coming.

You can't just convert the story of LotR to a MOD. You CAN make a MOD about the setting. In this case you could create the different civ's and put them on a map following the book. The ring itself could be made a wonder. I this case one could include Mordor as a civ with Souron as leader and Nazgul as special unit I guess.

I like both ways. The problem with winning the War of the Ring, it would have been militarily impossible for the Good Guys to win the War. Of course, the way some of the battles I have seen and read about in Civ 3, anything is possible  :D .

I am a huge LotR fan, and would be interested in playing your mod when it is finished. I would offer to help, but I am only good at typing, so I don't if that would help you out or not.

Maybe you could make something like this Dagor Bragollach scenario for Civ2?

I'd love to see a Lord of the Rings scenario; however, at this point it almost impossible to create a real scenario. My best idea is to create the different races (hobbits, dwarves, elves, humans, orcs, goblins, etc...) and let them all start in the beggining. In terms of units all units should be unique to their race. This would probably cut down greatly on the total number of units, but I think that would be better than all the races having a generic "bowman" unit. It would be impossible to follow the story line of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but it would be a lot of fun to have a game based on Tolkein's world.
