The Soviet and Chinese communist regimes placed a lot of controls on what was and was not acceptable entertainment.

Oh, and don't forget the Puritans.

I was under the impression that they only banned examples of entertainment that was subversive, not necessarily banning entire forms of entertainment wholesale.

They didn't ban everything, no. But they did place restrictions on many things. Many authoritarian groups have restricted entertainment to one form or another. The MPAA exists for that purpose. A number of religious groups, such as the Puritans have significantly restricted entertainment. Remember the "Footloose" story? Local governments have banned forms of music, dancing, many other types of fun.

Local governments are pretty crazy fun police sometimes, yeah. Particularly in the deep rural south where fun is equivalent to sin.

Do any of you guys like me yet or do you guys hate me? :D

Also, do you guys like Cashews and Milk?

I like cashews and I like milk.

Oh come off it Nicky, nobody's actually mud-slinging you.

It's more of a gentle mockery since, despite being a teenager, your taste in television would suggest you to be a conservative man in his mid-70s. Like John McCain. You and John McCain would probably enjoy watching TV together, and that's freaking hilarious. Nothing wrong with older TV shows themselves per se (Twilight Zone was great), just your obsession with them.

Well let's be honest. Very few programs today stand up to the quality of All In The Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and so forth.

Those were the best of the best in their day though. There's a ton of crap today and there was back then, but if anything, I'd say the volume of quality programming is actually increasing, although perhaps not at the same rate as the overall volume of programming.

I would agree with that.
