The Modern Age livestream - new leader, Harriet Tubman

Every 20th century civ and leader is taking a slot that could be filled by literally anything else. It also makes the final age considerably harder to quarantine if it comes with a full civ roster. So I'm going to go so far as to say that a fully developed fourth age on par with the previous three treated as a full expansion would ruin the game for me.

Maybe it will take slots away from vampires, zombies, and Hercules.

Im totally fine with both Harriet Tubman and Benjamin Franklin as leaders. After all leaders are not tied to Civs the same way as before. I think what is more important is that leaders have interesting and varied abilities.

Given the choice between Canada/Australia/2nd America and vampires, zombies, and Hercules, I will take the latter. :p

A silver lining I personally take from there being two American leaders is that there is a non-zero possibility of a post-Achaemenid Persian leader appearing along Xerxes someday in the future :mischief:

Can't wait for the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer persona to show up. :mischief:

Wait, you mean there's a difference?

But then we know some civs are likely to end up with two or more unique leaders considering even previous games with civs fixated to leaders did it. I think the main thing me and some others complained about is they having two very strongly associated leaders in the base game, and not they eventually having more than one.

Canadians only seem like vampires because, during the winter, the sun is out too infrequently for us ever to be seen in it. Australians, on the other hand, rarely resemble zombies except after they've drunk a lot of Zombies. Which, depending on the Australian, can be quite frequently.

Makes me think of a line from Noah Kahan: "Forgive my northern attitude, I was raised in little light."

When they said leaders could be someone who had significant contributions to human rights, I immediately thought of her, although I got a bit of hesitation when Franklin was already revealed to be included. Great choice, I love it, great animation too, although I have doubts regarding her espionage focused ability.
Why do leaders in Civ6 have awesome appearances and animations except for Augustus, who still looks like an overgrown child?

Have we seen Augustus in a while? I'm sure he's been polished, as well. To me, I wish Hatshepsut would get some more love; her design is just so bland and uninspired. Her hair doesn't even look like an Egyptian wig; her sheath dress is so Old Kingdom; her makeup is smudgy; etc.

This really was a surprise reveal. I gotta admit, I've only learned about Harriet Tubman today, but I have absolutely nothing against the devs repping their home state heroes. I have seen a valid concern that she might not be the best person to associate with the 4X formula, but otherwise she definitely seems to me a figure worth bringing attention to.

While it could have been even worse, I'm exhausted by some of the discourse about her inclusion. Today I've seen some of the most blatantly hateful and contrarianly dismissive comments I've ever seen related to video games. Things I've read were absurd. Makes me long for the times when I didn't know any English, but I sort of can't just tune out of it and stop it troubling me.

I think given the non-state leaders approach Firaxis is going for in Civ 7, Harriet Tubman makes a good fit due to her being a freedom fighter and later a spy. However, I do think the leaders being disconnected from civs makes this a bit better as to pair her with the US may not be the most representative depiction of her possible for the game.

I already thought the discourse surrounding Amina’s inclusion from some was bad enough (although I’m still overjoyed that she’s the first leader from my country’s history to be included), but the discourse surrounding Tubman’s inclusion was honestly next level with how racist some people were and how there is an apparent conspiracy claiming she never existed:eek:. (Albeit even if it was true that wouldn’t even matter, Gilgamesh has appeared in multiple games and isn’t even proved to have ever existed). It’s beyond absurd at this point.

Dido would have been a better example; we've found one of Gilgamesh's cylinder seals and it has been accepted as authentic.

I'm guessing you mean somewhere else? Cause here while there is a little bit, it was mostly people liking her addition and a few just preferring she was the only America one instead of two.

Reddit did some research. It’s not CFC indeed.
