The Most EPIC Game of CIV IV I've Ever Seen (aka The Most BRUTAL Immortal Game EVER (Charlie) by Henrik)

After four cities and the Pyramids, there were no good city sites left. A late-ish horse archer rush on Sury looks like a good play; he's still a ways from feudalism, and the war becomes very winnable when pillaging iron is prioritized.
But why build the Mids? It's an investment for the future and going for a HA attack is about speed. Those two ideas are contradicting. I'm not saying that Mids is a bad play at all, but rather that the strategy in the BCs was an absolute mess. Of course getting attacked on is very unfortunate.

I am at part three and enjoying watching it. I have never had such a bad position on immortal (or maybe did 15 years ago) but Henrik is putting up a good fight it seems.

Good point. The start has no early luxuries, so a case could be made that Representation happiness is needed to sustain whipping. But an earlier attack (w/ no Pyramids) would mean fewer Sury spear/sword, so fewer horse archers would be needed. The start does have lots of forest and hills, so enough HA could be made using chops+mines with an occasional 2-pop whip

Watched until the end and it was great! Managed to find the game on Discord and playing it. Yes I think Henrik had tons of bad luck in the BCs but also made risky choices that backfired. Not sure how much map knowledge helps, but it surely does. Mainly the knowledge of the barb issue makes you take it seriously from the get-go.

Even without knowledge of the horse, I think AH first is good. Cow is great for IMP guy and there is 3:hammers: tile to build settlers size 2 (assuming no horse).

Spoiler :
Same city sites and order. 4th on stone to get some failgold from Stonehenge and maybe Mids (have masonry, but GW is gone). I think I'm going archery-HBR immediately, delaying mining-BW and pottery. 1 worker who is unemployed soon (well road to Ham/Sury of course).

Sury didn't found 3rd city directly N, so monument in 2nd city would be worth a lot more in my game. Yes I now understand that the monument saves a fog buster in N, but I still don't think it's a good play.

Chariots in N and S, but assuming barbs will enter soon from the jungle, so probably need to come towards south with the northern one.

Spoiler :
Different tech path, less fog busting and units, down a city but more pop and winning 3gpt (worked tiles and maintenance).

bounce back from wars to catch up with a runaway AI?
Satellites in 16th century while you're rocking Longbows & Cats? Esc exit. I don't know why people put up with that. I get it's the challenge. Stellar performance though, would have appreciated abit more commentary while zooming past all the screens.

Spoiler :
I have 15 happy pop compared to Henrik's 11 due to me not whipping. Over double :commerce:. I am working coast, temporarily until can build HAs. One barracks, will build no stables of course. I think Hammurabi is the target.

Barbs are giving some trouble, but have managed to kill 6 archers and 4 spears. Archery before HBR was very useful! Have lost only the scout (followed AI unit to a hill) and one warrior. Have 3 archers (one CG2) and 3 chariots (one medic). They should help a bit in the war, too.

T64 massive miss with the fur trade. That +1 :) would've been huge. I don't think Sury has sailing in my game.

T88 declare. It's late and doesn't look that great. Lacked :hammers: (duh, no BW). Then again he doesn't have much. Extra hammer on Nippur cc is copper.

It's just stupid when a HA war goes well. Just captured Dur-Kurigazlu with GG-promoted HAs. Babylon had like 2 units. Captured 4 cities and 4 workers (5th is trapped in the south).

No need to continue the game of course. Not sure what we learned. Well HA stronk.

Would you mind playing for a few more turns?
Spoiler :

You kept every city! Even the South-East one. How are you going to reach alphabet?

Do you have spare units to pillage mines and pastures? It looks like a few gold short.

Spoiler :
Some pillage and capture :gold:. Sailing, IW, medi, poly for peace. 9 workers. I think ToA :gp: is very nice here, can use that golden age. Need some techs though and a religion for this continent.

Probably should've whipped a settler earlier to gift to Sury. There will be unnecessary complications if he starts plotting in next 5T. Gift settler was just whipped in the northern city.

Maybe need to delete some units, maintenance will go up a bit when cities come out of revolt. Could also gift copper city back.

I hope that you continue this and go deeper into some of your if:then reasoning behind your calls so as to compare.
