i dunno if this works but i put one of my braveheart soundtrack MP3 into the civ 3 music file i dunno if it works coz the music in civ is kinda boring if it works i might put in some star wars tune for the ancient age some modern rock tunes in the industrial and modern age I HOPE this works, any ideas how i can improve this?

Is there a way to change the music?
Maybye someone can come up with a utility.
Or maybe we can just access the folder/file for the music and change them...
Anybody knows how?

I was thinking about this, but there is a much easier way. Most of the music can be found in the civ3\Sounds\build\ directories. Load up winamp and you can play them. All you need to do is disable music while in game and turn on winamp. You will still get sound effects, but can listen to whatever music you want.

There is a way to actually change the in-game music, but it is a little difficult. The designers broke their music down into 9 different parts that are played in a specific order. I dont know this order, but i figured out how to change the music.

ex. Change AncECa to the song you want as the ingame music. Then put in 1 second long blank sounds for AncECb-AncECi. You will now have the song in your game, and it sounds right. Do not put in blank sound clips for the 1 second sounds, or the game will crash after the first song is done.

Hope that helps

yeah, its in the sound/build/ancient folder for the example. You replace the .wav file named AncECa with the full song. I believe it also has to be in the same format as other game sounds. That might be why you cant get it to work. If you want i could send you what i did to the sounds.

Ohhh yeah, that format is 24,000 Hz or 41,800 Hz (24 works better), 16 bit, mono

Also, the previous example will only change the sound for European countries. ME changes middle eastern. NA Native American. OR oriental. GR changes greek.
