Is anyone really looking forward to what Civ:BE brings to the table in regards to musical composition? For me, other than the AI being about as useful with their units as a chocolate teapot, the only thing that annoyed me about Civ V was the music.

For the most part the music in CiV is pretty drony especially for the European civs. The Native Americans were slightly better with that one "WAY WAY WAY, EIGHT NINE TEN" song. That's not to say I hate the music of Civ - I do love the Peace and War themes in terms of flavor and the Scenario music is brilliant too. I do hope that Peace and War themes return in Beyond Earth.

With all that being said, are you guys hopeful for what Civ: BE will bring in terms of music? Are you hoping for a fully classical score akin to Star Wars? Or perhaps something more contemporary like District 9?

Themes in Sci-Fi can vary extraordinarily from one series to another, which is partly why I'm so excited to see what Civ:BE brings. I mean, here are some great tracks from various sci-fi flicks and series:

.....And then we have this:

I sure hope Xeno-Titans look like that.

Anyway - what are your thoughts on the music in Beyond Earth? What are you hopeful for I guess is the question I'm asking.

The soundtrack is one of my favorite aspects of Civ V, and I think I'd be happy if Civ BE gets the same treatment: Peace/War themes for each faction and Peace/War/Either soundtracks for each Affinity.

I'd love some alienish, exotic New Age music, like those of Zangarmarsh, Terokkar and Azuremyst in World of Warcraft, for the Harmony affinity; and Late-Romantic, Neo-Classical and/or Modern music for Purity.

I still advocate a techno-classical score for Beyond Earth, something both futuristic yet familiar, mixing electronica with conventional instruments.

They could also have particular ethnic touches, if the devs have the resources to give each faction its own themes.

Fixed that for you.
Michael McCann definitely is a perfect choice for everything electronic, though, as evidenced by this:

This said, I'd like to have a bit of variety, as I strongly suspect we will get affinity-specific soundtracks.

How about Vengelis' theme for Cosmos:

Cosmos

The piano music sounds wistful, which speaks to the dying Earth, while the synthetic music speaks to the wonders that await us Beyond Earth.

Personally, I want this song playing at a Purity or Domination ending

And this playing for Supremacy Victory:

Hell, they should hire Frank Klepacki to do the soundtrack. He will cook up some appropriate music for each affinity and faction.

I wish they could get Stéphane Picq to help with the music score. He did the soundtrack for "Lost Eden", which is one of my favorite games (I know it is obscure). He worked on the Dune soundtrack, and somebody at Firaxis probably knows about that game.

I should mention that Geoff Knorr will be doing the Soundtrack for Beyond Earth. If you need a little reminder - he's the one that composed these great CiV songs:

Other themes he composed are England's War/Peace, Persia's War/Peace, Spain's War/Peace, Arabia's War/Peace, Ottomans' War/Peace, Incas' War/Peace,

I hope there are peace and war themes for the eight factions, they don't have to be all generic futuristic music, but harken back to past musical traditions (Daoming's can have some Khmer/and Chinese feel to it, Samatar can have some Somali feel, and so on) It would definitely make some people feel more patriotic if the themes are based on famous/well known songs which represent the cultural origins of the leaders. Basically mixing modern/future music with traditional styles should be awesome. :D
