What Republican do you think will run for President in 2008? Jeb Bush? Rumsfeld? Cheney? Powell? Somone still obscure?

I would make a poll, but there are too many names to mention,

I think the real question should be which Republican candidate should run in 2004.

R.III

Bush should take Condi Rice as VP candidate for 2004 and put old Dick out to pasture. 2008 could be the Year of Condi!

God yes!!!
The only acceptable alternative would be Rummy as Reagan is out of the picture.

Cheer up RIII. It could be a lot worse. Rumsfeld is charismatic as they come. Had things broken right for him in then 1970's, he and not GHWBush would have been Reagan's VP and successor.

Or would your prefer Tom Delay running in 2004?

J

I think Bill Frist is the current favorite. But it is far too early to speculate.

If I had asked this in 1996, how many of you would mention George W. Bush? How many would even know who he is? I certainly wouldn't.

You SERIOUSLY want her as President of the United States?

For one thing, in my circles, there's an old saying that only conservatives who smile can win as conservatives. I don't think Condeeleza has ever smiled. Second, given her weakness in economic policy, and given the Administration's weakness in foreign policy, she'd be an awful candidate.

Rumsfeld has been a failure even by the torqued standards of the Administration, and I can't think of anyone more likely to unite Congress AND the world AND the media AND the public against him than he is, since he can't keep his frickin' mouth shut when it matters.

Is there no one outside of the Executive who you can think of?

No doubt, Ms. Dole will try again, and flame out, again.

I was just poking at some websites to learn about more about the fella, and laughing at the prospect. Reminds me of a conversation with a republican hack friend of mine, who was going on about the "dearth of real leadership in the Democratic Party, when you use the standards of yesteryear." To which I replied, "and the GOP is different how, exactly?"

I second the anti-Condi sentiments.

There is something about her that I find extremely unnerving. She is probably the member of the Bush administration that I would least want to find myself in a conversation with. She just gives off this cold, condescending aura.

Not to say that Rumsfeld does it; but Rumsfeld does it in an amusing manner. If he insulted me, I bet they'd be insults I could copy and use against my friends to great social benefit.

@RIII
I accept you opinion as that of a Canadian. I would say something similar about your current PM.

Senator Norm Coleman.

I seriously believe he has a good shot at it if he wants it. He's charismatic, has a very good and professional look, and his record as Mayor of St. Paul is excellent. If you look at St. Paul ten years ago and what it is today, you'll know exactly what I mean.

As an added bonus, he was elected as a Democrat in 1993 but became a Republican in 1996. Ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1998, losing out to Jesse Ventura by two percent of the votes.

Don't know about you, but I like John McCain, although he's tried that before and will probably be too old by '08. I'd have rather had him over Bush in 2000.

McCain is the only Republican I know of that I might actually vote for.

Is there a point to this thread? Is anyone even running against Bush? :ack:

McCain wouldn't be my first choice, but I could hold my nose and cast a vote for him.

And when you said it, RIII would tell you there is no way in hell in voted for that man, and that he doesn't want him to be Prime Minister anyways.

What about Arnie...?:yeah::D

Do you know about the last time an Austrian was allowed to rule a foreign nation with high potential of destruction?

j/k to any Austrians out there

Seriously, now, Arnie is Austrian. We can't elect him, even if we wanted to elect him.
