EDIT

First: Make an account
Second: Sign up for our contest

Here it is, inspired by Tanicius's fantastic thread, a place where we can all compete against ourselves, each other, and the market. Sign up at investopedia (it's a good site and I know a young financial advisor who used it to learn the investing side of her business) and join the game.

Password is "thunderfall"(of course!:D)

The rules are fairly liberal. You start with $250,000k and you can go long, short, options and equities. Let's see what you are made of.

:king:

there might be prizes for the winner(s)

Winning can be defined as the following but I will be keeping track of
  • Weekly winners--who grew the most, who is in first?
  • Quarterly winners
  • Who is currently beating the market since starting.
  • The year in victor

I am completely open to suggestion.

I know jack-squat about economics, but investing here I come!

Awesome! Let me just get my random number generator out and we'll see how well I do!

I'm assuming there are no insider trading rules in this game...? ;)

EDIT: Gah, this is on America-time!!!!

Not sure if trust. Too many newsletters.

They're off by default.

And I just freaking told you I know a financial adviser who used the site (at large) to learn a lot when she was first hired after college while trying to get licensed. Financial adviser isn't exactly a throw-away title, particularly at her firm...

Outstanding, I'm in. I suspect the winner(s) will be those who bet correctly on the result of the US debt ceiling crisis.

I'm signed up but am not sure how much time I will have to give to this.

I'll give it a go.
