I've read how some (many?) dislike the multiple and persistent "I'm leaving" topics, especially with so many non-Americans here who are allowed to go on innumerable, long-a$$ "holidays" (American translation: "vacations"). But I (with many?) feel these notices are important. They keep us (those who care) in touch with what's happening in our global CivFanatics community. Especially, these notices let us know what's happened to a frequent poster who suddenly disappears (or is about to) so we're not left wondering about him/her.

So I propose a logistical solution: POST THEM ALL HERE! Yes, your one-stop topic for folks on the way out for a while or forever. "I'm Gone Central." All departures, all the time. Don't read it if you don't care.

 • Gonna be away for a few days (easily long enough to miss about 25 new topics and several pages of hot conversations) and just want to let your CFC buds know? TELL US HERE!
 • Gonna be away for a week? (or 5 weeks, if non-American ) TELL US HERE!
 • Been 'Net-grounded for spending too much time on CFC (or for something else)? TELL US HERE! (we'll cry for you)
 • Your computer dead and the prognosis not good (causing you to be out of action for a while)? TELL US HERE!
 • Leaving forever and never coming back because you're bitter about something? Well, we can't stop you from telling us, but at least TELL US HERE! (But please leave out the sob-story if you would and just bid us a fond "adieu".)

NOTE: Returning from your time off, your holiday/vacation, your grounding, your dead PC, your bitter spell? DON'T TELL US HERE! I've got a companion topic for those coming back. Please don't come in through the "out" door.

Don't care who comes or goes? DON'T READ THIS TOPIC!

We'll see how this goes (literally). Thanks all!

Leaving, for a long time, well atleast until the pop-up ads situation is resolved. I love this site and have devoted a lot of time and energy doing what I felt was a good job keeping the OT forum in line with the site rules. Unfortunately love doesn't beat hate when it comes to hating pop-up ads. So I will be checking in when I have time, but I I will be mostly just checking for the status on the pop-up ads. When they are gone, I will be back. Good Bye!

Added after childish ranting and raving left the building, like Elvis:
Ok, still here. I hope everyone is allowed to make a mistake, or a days worth, cause I know I have. I still do not want to be a moderator, but it has nothing to do with Tf, pop-ups, or CFC, although the pop-ups still piss me off. Going back to spending time with my wife, just trying to cover all the places where I acted like an idiot.

I am NOT leaving, but I can empathize with those that are leaving because of the pop-ups. I have been here a lot less frequently since those pop-ups have started. I have noticed that the quality of posts has gone down a notch since they started. I think we may be losing some of our good posters.

I never made it clear: my absence 9th july to 14th august (yes, 5 weeks) is for my geology mapping dissertation...so it is work.

Just ain't like your work -which allows for surfin' too!

miss you all! and miffed my GOTM 6 had to be rushed in under 4 1/2 hours in total! (my excuse for winning but without a killah score).

Pow does a fair job on the popups, Az.
It's the topic of a thread here in OT.
Popups aren't nearly as bad when using the program.
Some just choose to ignore.

See everybody!
The program exists! USE IT instead of talking about leaving!

i´m not leaving, but i won´t be here so often because:
1, the pop-ups.
2, it´s summer and the weather is great.

I've also semi-left because of pop-ups. I'll be in once in a while for GOTM purposes, but that's about it.

GUYS!!!

WHY DON'T YOU GET A POP-UP KIller?

Because it's the principle of the matter. I understand that advertising is important, but I also believe that advertisers have a responsibility not to piss off their target audience.

Advertising is not a war, with us defending against the evil thrust of the enemy. If it were, we'd each be doomed to lose, as we simply wouldn't have the resources to keep up with multi-million dollar companies. Install a pop-up-buster, and they'll come up with a better pop-up. Escalation is guaranteed.

So I choose to remove myself from the battlefield. Although I enjoy this site a great deal, the internet, like TV, has so far failed to deliver me a real balance between the (supposedly) necessary gloss and hype and some kind of deeper underlying substance. Until it does, I have better things to do with my time. (You do too, I might encourage...)

Computers are incredibly powerful tools, but attacking with 10 annoying pop-ups per minute is the equivalent of hitting one over the head with a sledgehammer.

This brief, forgettable period of pop-ups will pass. Let's hope the attitude that allows advertising executives out there to regard us all as passive hunks of flesh waiting to be beaten into submission will also one day pass.

And on a final note: Thunderfall, have you considered charging a small membership fee to get rid of ads altogether? For, say, a personalized avatar and maybe a few other perks, I'd certainly be willing to pay an annual fee. Especially if it meant no pop-ups (you can even keep banners for extra $$.) Whaddya say, huh?

I'm with you on ALL that you say here g_m_b...
You're right.

Is it also because of the pop-ups?

Ok, for respect towards Spiff, I get back in topic.
I'm not sure it's really necessary to post why/what/when/howlong you are leaving. After all if people don't see you any longer, I think they (excepted blondes of course ) all have a brain to infer that you're no longer here.
Az or Palehorse are good example. Az was on France for his exams. Well, he didn't say anything. PaleHorse has others own problems. Same thing. Now they are back that's all right...
At least I've stated my own opinion. Now you may all disagree with me but it's my humble opinion.

A wise man once said that life isn't fair. This is very true. Today the world is a global marketplace and everything is somehow effected by capitalism. We have 3 choices.

One, we can just except the way it is and get the neccesary pop-up stopper to deal with these pop-ups.

Or two, we can just give up and choose not to deal with it at all by removing ourself from the enviroment.

Or three, we can turn the capitalism around by being pro-active and try to change the current situation by leaving Telefragged sponsored sites and get another provider, or some other solution that we can do to change the situation pro-actively.

I am going to do solution one for now and hope it will pass. If not I hope for a good solution three.

Man, anyone that's *****in' about the pop-ups needs a LOONNNGGGG vacation, because you are obviously stressed out. A few extra clicks never hurt anyone.

Why abandon something you enjoy just because of Wall Street's pushiness? You aren't hurting them by leaving, you're hurting the site itself. If you're really mad about the ads, then go torch the Tony Hawk producers warehouse or something*, or write nasty e-mails to the companies.

Sorry to Spiffy for clogging his useful thread with this claptrap, but I felt it needed to be adressed.

Anyway, private joke, sorry.
