The only 3 things I *really* hope they change between now and launch

...and to be frank, they're pretty minor things at that.

1) Whilst I support their Ages-based approach to gameplay, I do hope that they consider subdividing the Ages into Eras on the Tech and Civic trees, as they were in previous iterations of the franchise. So the Antiquity Age would be Subdivided into Ancient and Classical Eras, Exploration Age would be subdivided into Medieval and Renaissance Eras, and the Modern Age would be subdivided into Industrial, Atomic and Information Eras. Obviously my thinking being that you'd need to complete a certain number of techs/civics in one Era before you could research ones from the next.

2) If what I am seeing is correct, they have done away with Eurekas and Inspirations. This is a real bummer, as I believe that was one of the best features of Civilization VI, and I hope they do bring it back at some point.

3) Whilst I am personally, fully on board with the concept of evolving Civilizations over time, I do hope they consider providing players with an option to remain as the same Civilization from one Age to the next.....at some kind of cost, obviously.

Anyway, that's all I have to say on the matter until I see more details.....but I am looking forward to dipping my toes into a new iteration of Civilization. Though I will almost certainly keep playing Civilization VI alongside it.

2) these had potential, but honestly I won't miss them. They cause me to play my game in an artificial way.

I don't even want to keep my "civilization" as the game is designed around changing civilizations, i just want to keep my civilization's name (and flag, city names and possibly art-style). It would be trivial to implement custom names for civilizations which would allow me to stay as "Egypt" even as i evolve and choose the abilities of another civilization and it would be enough for me (and probably many others too) to accept the civ-switching mechanisms.
Keeping the outdated bonuses as an additional challenge might be interesting if it's possible, but just keeping the name would already be a huge difference compared to the "let's scrap your civilization from the map and give you a new one" feel of civilization switching!

Sorry, I should have been more clear in what I said there. Whether it is retaining your whole Civilization from Age to Age (as you could choose to do in Humankind-a game I love despite its issues), or merely retaining the outward trappings as you mention, they definitely need to give the players the Option to retain that identity if they want. As for myself, as someone who loved Rhys and Fall back in the Civilization IV days, I have almost zero attachment to the whole "stay as one civilization for 6000+ years" concept.
