Ah - I thought this was Davo's metal thread. No matter; screaming and musicality ? - can't we just cite something like Erwartung instead of something I like, so I don't feel obliged to respond when I think someone's classifying The Who alongside the likes of Lordi ? The metalheads are welcome to Schoenberg...

PS Kudos to Schoenberg for one great quote, though: "My music is not modern, it is merely badly played."

I love the music, but I hate the lyric style. If they sung halfway normal, they'd be a cool band. clicked on a related link- philosopher. cool song, but again the lyric style detracts from the music.

actually I like some screaming. I do like Cradle of Filth, after all.

In the case of Death, his growling sounds comical. He needs to do it deeper. Though there comes a point where you get too deep, and it really sounds comical.

haven't heard that one. time to acquire it.

They did Hell Awaits. Not nearly as good as Slayer, but not bad. Hallowwed be thy name and Fear of the Dark. Though I think one of those Maiden covers is by some other band that kind of sounds like Cradle of Filth. Admittedly, they all sound the same to me. :). But I do like both the Fear of the Dark cover, and Hallowed be thy name covers.

For the argument on rap. Fo, hizzle, skeet and other words popular in this genre are not words. Illiteracy. If I wanted to listen to some high school drop out who smokes weed talks about killing cops and banging white women. I would. But I don't.

I instead would rather listen to complex music like hard rock. Something more than a repeating loop of like 3 beats in a rap song with the occasional gun shots and horrible lyrics.

Generally those who rap, fail at school and go to jail. When however the kids who pass generally listen to rock music more.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the vast, vast majority of professional musicians didn't go to University...

I have a suspicion that 99% of rappers dropped out of 7th grade.

Where do you think words come from? ("Skeet" is a word, incidentally.)

This is one of the reasons I love Iron Maiden. Listen to songs like "Number of the Beast" and "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner" (yes I know its lines from the poem, all the more to my point), its very deep and thoroughly thought out. This is not just a bunch of guys going crazy on their guitars in a garage and screaming into a microphone, there's a sharp mind at work.

The new album also rocks "Brighter then a thousands suns", "These Colors Dont Run", "Longest day" all good songs.

Ive always thought of a song as one big three or so minute melody, one that can catch your attention. Thats why I never cared for lyrics, take a good melody, lets say, for agreeabilaties sake, the meldoy of "smells like teen spirit" and put any lyrics over the melody and the song doesnt hardly change at all. Its still got the same melody and tone. Thats why I never got onto rap(but some of the earlier stuff was cool), it was about rythm and lyrics and stuff, Ive heard very few rap songs that were aboyut melody. Although Ive heard even fewer recent ones that make sence("Im hot cuz I am, you aint cuz you not"). But it not makes sence in a way that bugs me.

I'd say he's speaking harshly more than growling. Besides, personally I think he's got one of the most characteristic and recognizable voices in metal, much less comical.
