The Pen/Line Tool [or, a GREAT mod idea!]

Is there any way to enable the line/pen tool w/o having to zoom all the hell way out? This would be amazing and make life a lot easier.

Anyone know of a simple way to enable it?

If not, think it would be possible to mod to allow it?

I only recently found out about alt+s being a way to make signs, so, maybe there is something I can use to this effect

I think it would be kinda hard to draw while zoomed in.

I've always thought it would be better to be able to draw dot maps, city fat crosses, etc. while closer than the closest globe view available.
