Has anyone else heard this song playing during the modern age? It's absolutely wonderful! I've noticed that the modern age music is sooo much better and fitting than that horrible jazz music in civ3, anyone else agree?

So does anyone know who wrote this song and what kind of genre of music this would fall under? Opera?

For those that want to hear it right away the song is located in your Civ4 folder under Assets --> Sounds --> Soundtrack --> Modern, and the song is called ThePeopleAreHeroes.mp3

    Give it a listen, it's great! :D

I know a couple of the modern era pieces are John Adams' "The Chairman Dances" and "Harmonialeire", great music. I love the music that starts in the Industrial Age, too.

"The People Are The Heroes" is also by John Adams, from his opera "Nixon in China" (highly recommended!). In fact, I think that all the modern age music is by John Adams.

After hearing it first time , on the day the game
was out, I started a thread about it. Since the search function
is disabled I cannot find my post.

Yes...Nixon in China. Some of it is great. Some of it, is a bit ---um--- suicidal. I also recommend some other modern composers with a bit more melody in their stuff..Copland, Berstein, Mancini.. Hey, it's the modern era. Who says we can't have Big Band and Jazz? Also...movie soundtracks are great too. The obvious Star wars/Indiana Jones (JOhn Williams) come to mind. I bet you the Glory soundtrack would be good.

O Fortuna comes to mind as a track that would have been good to include as well. Probably with a trigger that launches it automatically the second the first nuke is fired.

Some Wagner (Ride of the Valkyries...) come to mind as well as "missing track".

Overall, it's still a brilliant list of tracks.

I hate the modern era music.
Gotta replace it with my pop music sometime. But I just dont happen to get to the modern times a lot (=practically never).

Great song, when i was exploring the music folder in civ 4 i also found a song called UN.
Civ 4- assests-sounds-soundtrack. I have never heard it in the game but it is a great song.

    I've heard that piece.

Another piece I've also noted is one from Bach's Cello Suite No1. I dont remember what era it plays though.

Pfft, the Beatles are alot better. I don't really like the whole tragic opera feel to the song. Don't get me wrong though, I love classical music, just not really this type.

"Nixon in China" was a horrible opera with some nice pieces; the rights must have been pretty cheap.

    I second this.

My soundtrack to Civ 4 is my iTunes, although I like to choose something with a bit of an international feel: Beirut is quite nice for that.

I actually totally disagree. I much prefer Civ 3's modern music. Civ 4's is too close to Industrial Age music.

There are times I play just the Medieval and Industrial folders for background music because I love them so much. But the Modern age just doesn't do it for me.
