You know, I was actually thinking the same.....
Okay, so... It has been a while since I answered on this thread.
First, I want to make one thing clear:
When will Re Ki development begin?
Unless anyone is willing to start before me, it won't take place until LENA reaches version 1.0; it's currently it version 0.40... So, it may seem like it will take a while, but this number will go up quickly. There's some main things I need to settle down before moving on to create new things; the leaders' personalities and the Ngomele are top priority for now.
Apart from that, development discussion can still happen
That's something I can agree with... Should always finish the one civ before starting another. Or finish a project before starting another.... Something I'm always guilty of.
good plan Opera.
in the mean time id like to direct everyones attention to the Beastiary of Erebus be sure to look at Cernunnos's creatures
Hey, did I already show you this: http://one-vox.deviantart.com/art/The-Green-King-68604547 ?
WOW that is FANTASTIC! would be perfect for a seeded human!
Or a Seed Puppet, since it looks kinda corpse-like...
Nah, not the same thing
Seed Puppets are mindless corpses used primarily for destructive purpose and they don't last long. Seeded humans or elves or whatever are alive and they still think, dream, etc.; they are 'just' so close to the trees now that their own mind has changed; it's like a quick lobotomy and a quick socialization
Just like Poison Ivy from batman Her veins run with chlorophyll, making her closer to plant than human, even though she's still intelligent and looks human.
I've been playing a lot of Batman Arkham Asylum lately...
Lol ... chlorophyll being used for blood ... silly psudo-sci-fi comic book canon creators.
Im sure that little piece of lore was made up particularly for the game. Although in some realities of batman, she did genetically modify herself with plant materials, in others her appearance is merely an obsessive costume to go along with an obsessive lifestyle. The main ingredient being the poisonous lipstick which works as a tranquilizer of some sort. I believe she has another version of the lipstick that is lethal ... but still, its more of a botanist/alchemist gone mad than an actual part-plant lady. Although im sure its tun to make up plant powers for her to have due to biological plant mutations, so that she can still be a menace after just escaping from, or running around in, a prison.
ohhh im with you now carry on then haha
Okay, I wanted to update the first post but I don't quite know where to start. I know there's two more confirmed leaders, for now known as 'the Sleeping Princess' and 'the Changeling'.
As for the rest, I'm a little more dizzy; it's been a long time since the discussion died out.
Is there still points of debate? I know we're still uncertain about sea-travel and siege units.
Also, seZereth, if you happen to stop by, are you still interested by this project?
I think Nature/Water/Sun would be the best. Although perhaps even better would be Nature/Creation/Water.
As for Lena, I would say the first one, where she is more plant-like, as opposed to the provocative picture underneath
I was thinking the other day about how the plants could use naval travel. and thought: what if they can capture enemy ships, and 'rejenerate' the wood, making it become alive again. they would have roots for oars and rudders, and their canopy would be the sail. they would be slower than normal ships but able to regenerate (ie increase heal rate) and count as living units.
we could use the same idea behind the Wood Dragon. the Re Ki saw the Dragons like Erubateres as a threat, and so 'manufactured' their own counterpart from the remains of a dead Ve.
similarly, the Re Ki saw the other races of Erebus's Naval capacity as a threat and adapted to this by capturing, analysing and reanimating the ships as their own living ships. we could still use the floating island idea and possibly give them spells that summon permanent living ships. like portable harbours.
what you think?
I still think Spore Canons are the way to go, having greater collateral against units and less strength against cities. we could similarly have plants that spit digestive acids to be able to bombard cities, and melee units with capability to recude city defences (imagine treemen growing their roots/vines in between the crack of walls, causign them to crumble in seconds.)
Regarding Palace mana:
I still vote for Nature/Creation/Water Life
im not sure if i showed you guys these before:
http://yonaz.deviantart.com/art/life-tree-36721401 --- i picture this as being what teh Ve look like.
http://thistly.deviantart.com/art/Twigs-30128900 --- a cool wraith-like plant like creature.
http://yonaz.deviantart.com/art/Mossmurkel-58327611 --- possibly a wood dragon or something.
http://zakariah.deviantart.com/art/Rootbeast-summons-31595586 --- also a possible wood dragon
Hmmm. I'm more leaning towards Nature/Life/Sun. It's annoying to not be able to settle on one combination of mana
Yes, at least this is already settled. The first one is for Lena, the second one for the Sleeping Princess
I like this idea a lot!
However, how would they capture ships, exactly?
Also, I don't see the AI using many ships... So that may be annoying.
Hmm, the capacity for melee units to reduce city defenses is interesting. And we would have the Spore Cannons as collateral specialists?
Yes, the first one is a pretty good of a plausible Vë. Maybe not all roots would be outside though.
I'm not sure what could be the second picture; creation of a seeded human inside the Vë?
I like the first wood dragon, even though it looks a lot like an Avatar (but I can where they're really different, so it's not a real issue). The second one looks too typically dragon-ish for my taste
normally id agree with this, but the fact that plants dont photosynthesis in erebus means there is no affinity with sun at all for plants.
if you're adament you dont want creation for Re Ki id rather go with Nature/Life/(Water or earth)
but really, im happy with sun too (its a cool sphere) it just dosnt really fit lore wise.
what about alowing the Re Ki work boats, when destroyed to 'seed' enemy ships the same way that humans are seeded. give their workboats one attack as well then.
we could even make it so that whenever the Re Ki defeat an enemy ship it triggers an event that alows all their cities to start building thier equivilent of that ship. Think of it as once they encounter a ship they have the 'blue prints' to build more. perhaps also a unique result from exploirng ship wreck lairs could be to grant the Re Ki a random ship blueprint.
those were my thoughts exactly
from one who have not much knowlegde about the lore of erebus, i would say Nature/Life/Water.
Sun would allow to scorch the earth, what makes no sense in my opinion. And there are many plants that dont need a lot sun to grow like (dont know the english word, in german its called "Nachtschattengewächse" = nightshadowplants?, tomatoes, ivy, mushrooms...).
Earth in FFH is more like stone, why should a plant like civ be able to get more Gold/Iron etc. or to cast a stonewall/stoneskin? The Re Ki could get other spells, more like "Humus" as the scions get other body spells, but to make things not more complex as they are i would vote for Nature/Life/Water.
Nature looks fix for palace mana. Perhaps the Re Ki should only have one palace Mana, and get other boni instead?
I like the idea of rejenerate other navy, too. To get a start, what do think about an swimming island as a national unit or even world unit that can capture other ships an convert them to a plant aquivalent?
i quite like this idea.
peerfectly said i couldnt have said it better (but i didnt even think about the earth sphere being like that too. another good point)
this is also possible. we could even make them start with 2 Nature mana and 1 life.
