The POTUS decides to be a chicken, pulls out of Afghanistan

I just find the left semi insufferable at times. They opposed the war and then opposed the withdrawal be consistent.

The left was not only not opposing the withdrawal, it was cackling with delight at all the gnashing of teeth from the centrist neoliberals with whom you're in love.

'There could be still hundreds of Americans' in Afghanistan, former U.S. envoy says

“Truth of the matter is, we don’t know … but my judgment is there could be still hundreds of Americans there,” Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, said in an interview aired Sunday on CBS' “Face the Nation, his first since resigning Monday.

LOL: Truth of the matter.

Trump appointee says Biden is screwing up, news at 11.

But this is the one image that really says everything

Afghanistan, not an issue at all during the Forever, war,

SUDDENLY A MASSIVE ISSUE WHEN WITHDRAWL HAPPENS

Back to not being an issue.

More the news cycle.

It's an issue for the military, troops and the budget stuff politicians have to deal with.

Afghanistan's ghost soldiers undermined fight against Taliban - ex-official
Afghanistan's ex-finance minister has blamed the government's fall on corrupt officials who invented "ghost soldiers" and took payments from the Taliban.

Khalid Payenda told the BBC that most of the 300,000 troops and police on the government's books did not exist.

He said phantom personnel were added to official lists so that generals could pocket their wages.

LMAO

Anyone in Afghanistan justice ministry who pointed that out at the time were usually fired.
Wait, this is illegal

Oh boy, I hope there isn't a large amount of papers and statistics that suggest that corruption and inequality are linked in a cycle of feeding eachother so I can pretend that nothing can be done to stop corruption and the collapse of Afghanistan was inevitable.

Old memes aside, yeah it has been known for quite awhile that's what's been happening. There were several acknowledgements that this is why Afghanistan would fall quickly when the US leaves. Sure would've been good if the US did something about it.

remember, less than the government of Haiti. Helicopters sent without readable manuals or pilots. Buffoonry at its most lethal.

Good to see that Sweden didn't come out with its "reputation" perfectly intact. :)

The Taliban are more Nationalists than anything while IS are the more extreme nutters that even they have trouble with.
Hello and welcome to Off Topic! :)

I mean, is it possible you talked to different people? The left is 1. very large and 2. notoriously diverse and heterogenous, so any perspective which includes them as one big category is necessarily going to find contradictory opinions within the category. Humans are individuals, you know?

Also secondly, what you posed is not entirely inconsistent or unreasonable. When you're stabbed with a knife the doctors do not want you to just pull out the knife, despite doctors generally opposing people getting stabbed. Leaving the knife or glass in could be vital for reducing the amount of bleeding caused by the wound.

A few a just inherently contrarian or same dumb crap on the right. Eg ideology over reality, same fake news BS.

At least the right doesn't pretend I suppose.

I disagree, I think there's a lot of pretense on the right. For example, Donald Trump's golf courses in Scotland were preparing for climate change, while Trump himself denied it existed.

But your message is not very clear. Doesn't pretend? pretend about what?

You mention contrarianism, but that's not what I was talking about. I mean people who agree on the need to fix many of the recorded problems in society like wealth inequality, gender pay gap, manmade rapid climate disasters, racism, access to abortion and trans medical care, but generally find sharp divide on how to fix it. For example this is a big divide between Social Democrats and Socialists.

A socialist generally wants a restructuring of society, and the other wants to introduce laws within the current system to reach these goals.

And then you can find various subdivisions of those.

A good demonstration of this might be that two people could agree war bad, but one be in favour of leaving afghanistan because it is participation in warfare, and the other be against leaving afghanistan because there was a degree of stability in city centres. These people believe in the same value of being anti-war, but disagree on how to proceed. And because these are different people, it cannot be called hypocrisy or inconsistency when they disagree.
