We look at the intention behind the posts. If you're just out to create a disturbance and swear (and irritate us as well), well... :sniper:, whatever the fancy words you might choose to deploy.

Stick to polite language.

It's a made-up word from the TV comedy show Father Ted, which is about Catholic priests. I assume the moderators don't like it because they're Protestants :D .

Well, I was born catholic, went to catholic school for 8.5 years, and have worked for a catholic company for the past two years....

Like XIII said, we look at the intent. Religion has nothing to do with it.

Yup. But that is the real issue, no matter which words are used. "I think your opinion is ridiculous" (or in fact "Oh dear" followed by the infamous rolleyes) is no less offensive than being call a dumb-youknowwhat.
I too find a rolleyes smily to be honestly offensive.

Why American?
I'm as far as from an American as you can find (heck, I'm not even White!) - and I fully support the move to clamp down on the excessive upping of swearing and stuff lately. :sniper:
You don't need to be white to be a full fledged Americans  And hey, aren't you from Singapore? Then you'd be used to extremely strict decency laws :p

Not having an all inclusive list puts the onus on people to think before they post!
There's a significant difference between thinking and second guessing. Thinking is what most of us do and decide what's reasonably appropriate and what isn't. Second guessing makes us paranoid and constricted.

Much better now eh? Less offensive I guess.

So words that are not even real words are now bannable? Are there any other non-words that are bannable besides this father ted word? Gobbledygook should be as one could find it racist. Is Gobbledy an adjective and if so...?

Ban the word RIDICULOUS.

okay, you tell us to stick to other words, so we do stick to other words, but then you tell us they're close enought to swears, and have the same meaning of a swear word so we can't use it. bottom has the same meaning as the a-word. and somebody at some point made it up. you should ban it.

i have just made a new word ifvuigbjkrthjo (well, i typed random letters, but it's still a word now). it has the same meaning of soem word in the english language, but i'm not telling which one. better put it on the autocensor list just in case it means something bad

This post was not necessary so it's gone. This site is very different from what it used to be. Ah well.

Hey Duke, you should not have quoted me. What if my post is looked at in all it's contextual glory and I get banned? The timing of your post might not be so leniently looked upon.

There is really a very large mountain being made out of a very small molehill here.

  1. Don't use of swear words that get autocensored.
  2. Don't use swear words where you change one or several letters to prevent the autocensor from changing it.
  3. When in doubt, consider the context of what you are posting.

I really don't see how why you people think its so gosh darned difficult to stay within these fairly basic guidelines.

Yes although normal posters can as well as long as they do it for a valid reason...

I am so long-winded that I have never collided with the 10-character limit.

Actually, we're not telling you to stick to other words, we're telling you not to use such language. It's really not that hard. Many Mods have said it, I'll say it again, use common sense.

If people want to try and make up words that have the same meaning as other words and we see them being used in such context, they will be held responsible.

And, no, bottom is not a direct usage for the 'a-word'.... The baseball game is in the bottom of the 5th inning.

As always, if people don't like the result from the Mods they can send them a PM and ask for a clarification/explanation.
