Looks like a big enough force to start chewiing on the Romans and more on the way. Only thing I would consider is putting the econonmy on a war footing but that might jeopardize the Statue of Liberty. We certainly have enough room in the budget to afford overseas upkeep and war weariness.

    "Cry havoc", and go Whomp.

OK I might cave to Saladin's demand of ~200ish cash so we don't have any surprises and if I need to move the slider to keep our citizens happy I will. Any research? I have science at zero as well. I think we have 3 banks and I'm working on one.

IT Start Globe in Cordoba and frigates and military most everywhere else. I did start a bank in
1822 Upgrade some cannons and a maceman. Will upgrade a few more next turn. Trade Liberalism for 700g with Caesar since he's the only one without it.
IT Finally, an Arabian frigate comes in and sinks our caravel. There were 8 frigates in Baghdad but it took one from somewhere else to move our cavavel.
1824 Upgrade an elephants, cats and some conquistadors.
1826 Load ships for JC. Still can't get peace from Saladin.
IT Our probing Frigate is sunk by a Arab frigate.

1828 Wait a turn before attacking. Check out Pisae. That's a mighty spicy meataball inside there.

Move a pile of units out of Cordoba and the place goes nuts with 4 angry citizens. Oops. Turn lux up to 20%. I'm sick of Saladin so...

1830 Land all our units at both Arretium and Ardium
Attack Caesaraugusta and take out 2 LB's with a cav 3.8/15 and Rifle 7.7/15 that need a promo.
Then take Viroconium with 2 cavs taking a pike 9.3/15 and barely taking a LB 3.0/15.

1832 Lose 2 cannons damaging a rifle, LB and Pike at Arretium. Cav goes 8.1/15 vs rifle, next cav 7.3/15 vs Pike.
At Areda we do wicked damage to a new rifle but lose our cannon. We'll need more arty I'd think.
1st cav goes 12.1/15 vs. pike, 2nd goes 8.3/15 vs. LB and final cav goes 12.4/15 vs. rifle.
1834 Nagoya captured by the Arabs. Ohoh. the capital could lose some crabs as there's a caravel outside the city.
Sink a caravel near Arretium but lose a frigate to a galleon with 99% odds.
1836 Lose a fishing boat at Murcia. Wow that was lucky we get a great engineer Isambard Kingdom and send him to Madrid. Sink the injured galleon with a galleon and lose a galleon to a caravel that's about that's headed for our crabs. Trade divine rights to Monte for 280g.
1838 A pile a macemen, a couple crossbows, LBs and a cat approach Arretium. Rush the Statue of Lib in the capital. Turn up culture to 40% since I need to empty Cordoda to save Arretium. Knock out two caravels and a galleon.
IT Caesar attacks Arreteum and loses a cat, 3 crossbows, 3 Maces and a LB with 1 loss of a cav.
1840 Whack a LB with a rifle and the last maceman and their counteroffensive has been taken care of. Here's the status at Neaopolis. You'll probably need to bombard the city and bring more arty to take it.

I'm not sure if I helped us or hurt us here since it seems like cannons are critical to take any inland cities. The question is rather than going for the Holy city was I better off hitting the coasts?

    The save

Admire the audacity shown by going straight inland to a holy city. If it works JC cultural borders will fall back and holding it should be easier done than said.

Let's not neglect the economy now. I assume we are researching Corporation for Assembly Line and factories. Do we have any other choices here?

Pipe the Admiral to the quarterdeck

    AdmK - up

And that is as far as I can go without looking back a page or two

We can still trade for corporation iirc. I ran zero science but most all of our units have been upgraded. We are in desperate need of cannons and we probably can't take the holy city without them.

    BC we do have buddhism.

    Hi guys,

my deepest apologies for not participating in the discussions going on, but I'm (unexpectedly) drowning in work at the moment. I will be unavailable to take part in any game until Friday, 14th. After that, I will have plenty of spare time, and I hope the game will still run then for me to play smart-ass again. :mischief:

    Sorry all.

oops. here it is. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads12/Warhorse_AD-1860.Civ4SavedGame

Don't be too harsh or i'll ask harriet to cut off the cookie supply ;)

Something else I forgot to mention, I've pillaged the roads to the former Roman south to prevent Roman cavs from running in and attacking. i've been moving slowly towards the roman dye city, forget the name. Divide and conquer. Given my druthers, I'd have switched to caste and pumped out the borders, but I don't know what druthers are so I stayed with the plan

Edit: Sal's fleet didn't survive and IIRC we now are at peace.

and oops, I seem to have killed the roman landing force. when those troops recover, they could go on the offensive :crazyeye:

We need cannon on the roman homeland as well as cav. I've been letting the groundpounders take the stray roman assaults and gathering a reserve of cavs to be a hammer later. yes, I've have issues

Yet another edit: IIRC, julius will trade corp for peace

@ Admiral: Make sure you click "ok" rather than hitting "enter" to get your comments in that autolog thingy.

Actually, I'd suggest you play in "windowed" mode and just alt-tab to a notepad document. I've had 0 crashes or hassles since switching to windowed mode, and I can now fight the AI instead of the game :)

This one is going to take a fair amount of head scratching between turns. I could only look at it last night but may get some turns in tonight.

Biggest issue right now is straightening out the logistics, getting the right troops with the right promotions and getting the civics right. I plan to execute a tactical withdrawal to Neapolis, change to warmonger civics (Slavery and Theocracy or maybe Vassalage instead) then full steam ahead to removing Julio's port cities, especially Rome.
