    Turn 240 (1650 AD)
Learn Printing Press and start on Replaceable Parts for the Lumbermills
Cordoba grows to 12 and gets unhealthy
    Hurrian finishes Forge

    IBT:

    Turn 241 (1655 AD)
Hurrian begins building Hindu Monastery. Next job up will be a Barracks and then alternating military and missionaries.

The eastern isle is has barbarians ao the maces and the elephants go to work rooting them out.

Madrid finishes Harbor and gets the healthy points before it grows

    IBT:
While defending, Maceman defeats (5.12/8) Barbarian Archer

    Turn 242 (1660 AD)
Madrid starts a Hindu Missionary as I want to bring the faith to the eastern isle and then start spreading to England (Free Religion) and Japan (Organized Religion) and more into Germany
    Santiago finishes University
    Salamanca grows to 4
    Murcia finishes Lighthouse

IBT: Liz comes calling and asks that we embargo the MesoAmericans. As we don't seem to need his stuff at the moment and if we do it can be replaced elsewhere I agree.

    Turn 243 (1665 AD)
The barbarian town of Kushans is building a Granary to power its growth
Barcelona equips a Hindu Missionary who trips off to meet the boats at Santiago.
    Hurrian finishes Barracks
    Murcia grows to 5

IBT: And the Romans land a pair of poachers, flip bait I say....

    Turn 244 (1670 AD)
    Madrid equips a Hindu Missionary
Seville equips a Settler who joins the missionaries on the Santiago boat train.
    Toledo finishes Observatory
    Hurrian grows to 12

    Turn 246 (1680 AD)
    Hinduism spreads to Kushans
Madrid begins building Oxford University. It is the premier scientific and comercial town and won't have the hammers to be a Heroic Epic city
    Santiago starts a Maceman
    Salamanca begins building Library
    Seville starts a Hindu Missionary
    Kushans finishes Granary

    IBT:

He has single empty galley east of Cordoba. Good thing I started Chems as we can upgrade some boats to Frigates and interdict the sucker as he sails east.

Bismarck smells some blood in the water and tries to hold us up for silver and some gold pieces so I ship him some newly acquired silks

    Turn 247 (1685 AD)
    Kushans begins building Library

For Liberalism Toku will fight Saladin They have a nice tidy border and sbould have some good catfights up there. To further support the Japanese war effort I send him some elephants and buy some health resources from him to keep our people growing and researching.
Seville starts a Pikeman as I expect Sladin just may send some Camel mounted dudes and I don't have rifles yet. One or two in the coastal towns, supported by Conquistadors should keep him off our island.
Cordoba grows to 13 and gets unhealthy again
    Cordoba finishes Observatory
    Toledo's borders expand
    Toledo finishes Market
    Hurrian finishes Hindu Monastery

    IBT:

    Turn 248 (1690 AD)
    Toledo starts a War Elephant

    Madrid grows to 19
    Seville grows to 15

    IBT:

    Turn 249 (1695 AD)
This should be slam dunk, no?, or at least a lay-up, yes?

    No

While attacking, Caravel loses to Arabian Galley (0.24/2)
Valencia founded to the north of Kushans and will claim some FP (being irrigated) a desert Copper and some more silks. As the settler was acompanied by a missionary the town gets the faith right away and starts a Granary for the growth

Sink the Arab dhow with a galley and sail into Cordoba for upgrade to a Galleon. There is another galleon on the way in to guard the gut.
    Learn Chemistry
Seville equips a Pikeman and sends him to Cordoba
    Cordoba grows to 14
Hurrian equips a Pikeman and sends him west.
    Salamanca grows to 5

    IBT:

    Turn 250 (1700 AD)
    Start research on Rifling
    Hurrian starts a Conquistador
    Seville starts a Conquistador

I delayed the banks to get some military in place but once that is taken care of we can go back to building them. I also picked up the military techs and would really like to have rifles at some point but Corporation and Wall Street is also tempting.

I did my best to restrain my manufacturing bias and let the citizens have time to go fishing and breed. There is a worker doing the lunber mills at Madrid. For the :smoke: move I did send two workers out to quary the marble thinking it would speed up Oxford.

Overall I reasonably comfortable with our position. The Raging Barbarians set us back, but that was expected. We are burning some serious midnight oil and by the time we run out of money will have the powerhouse research facilities in place, so our tech pace will not slow down much. Now what to do with it?

    Hi,

yay, action! Good move bringing Toku into the war. The "mutual struggle" thing should get us closer together. The longer this game runs, the more I like the idea of having Toku (of all leaders!) as best friend. :D I hope we can keep it that way, for unlimited style points. :goodjob:

I'm a bit surprised that Madrid is/will be our best science city, seeing that it has not many cottages. I would have expected Seville to be better, but then the capital city is never a bad place for Oxford. :)

Since we planned to become this a wargame, we should think about when to attack somebody, and who that one shall be. Do we want to attack when we have rifles? Or do we want to wait for tanks, maybe applying the Sirian Doctrine?

As to whom to attack, I guess Rome would be an obvious chouce, considering how close he is to us. Or we could have a look who's Toku's worst enemy, and attack that civ. :mischief:

We will need a ton of lumber mills to get the hammers needed for a tank/air/battleship campaign, I think, but they sure are fun.

I too was a little surprised at the science leadership of Madrid. Seville was only a distant second.

As for a target - I like Rome, just because it is close, but Toku's worst enemy is a fun choice. Keepimng Toku as a bosom buddy is worth many style points.

OK I got it. It seems I have some potential skirmishing at hand. Are we still sending our missionaries out and about? Thoughts on next research?

England, Japan and Germany are the only missionary destinations IIRC, and, yes, I think we still need to get them out on the on the road. After a couple of epic length slugfests I just finished, shrine income was a major piece of the action, as well as the cement common religions have on diplomatic relationships. I am almost to the point where every military training town has a monastery to go with its barracks.

Pre-turn: Notice worst case I can upgrade some units to grenadiers if the stuff hit's the fan. We can get nationalism but the civic doesn't seem to be necessary right now. Bureaucracy could be worthwhile to finish Oxford faster. The civic will increase our upkeep by 5gpt but our production and commerce will increase in the capital.Switch our civics. This is where being religious comes in handy. It was 22 turns and we drop to 16 turns. With an engineer and a small tile shift it drops to 13 turns. We end up 7gpt less but 9 turns ahead on Oxford. I'm ok with that trade off.
    Here's the before...

    and after...

    IT
1705Open borders with Liz and drop off a missionary in...can't remember. A British town.
    IT
1710Sell our map for 160g to Julius, 140g to Liz, 90g to Frederick and 30g to Toku

    IT Monte declares on Liz.
1715 Try to get Toku to shut Monte off tradewise. No dice.

1725 Rifling in next and I'd like to upgrade some units so I decide to make a few deals. Trade Econ to Julius for all of his 530 gold, Frederick's 110g, world map and divine right as a throw in.

IT Liz comes asking for us to join her in her struggle versus Monte. Monte will never be a friend and we are developing a relationship with Liz. Rifling in.
    1730 Upgrade some units.

    IT Someone thinks we're ok...

1735 Dang it seems Saladin has a few rifles too. Blockade with the caravel in front of Baghdad so he can't pull those galleons out.

1740 Move the other direction to see if we can hit Monte instead.

1745 Toku's deal has increased so I give econ for his 310 gold.

1750 Oxford in two. Hire a few specialists on Madrid's growth.

    Summary
I don't feel like I did anything but there it is. Mostly military builds and some worker tasks....oh and another war. This one we might be able to fight.

Nice call on the civics swap. We are definitely back in the hunt with that one. Time to start plotting out the logistics for a little hurt on the Aztec.

Preflight check: Long, hot day, with a couple of games of Ticket to Ride has left me a bit beat. Try to get

out 5 tonight to get this moving again [:)]

At war with Saladin and Monty
    steel due in 3T.

Our Navy consists of 3 Galleons, 2 Frigates, and 1 Caravel. Doesn't look like we're going to do much invading in my

    set.

Bump up research to 100% to get Steel in 2T.

I can't see much point in attacking Rome right now, especially with 2 wars going on. Maybe we can land in Monty

land but the stretch is too much with the low number of Navy units.

Sell Ceesar Ivory for 12gpt (I'm not worried about Elephants now)
Sell Clams to Toku for only 1gpt (he's our friend so I let it slide)

    IBT: Seville Bank -> Grenader

T1: 1755 AD I have no idea where we want to send these loaded Galleons. There's not enough troops to do

any harm except get killed. I park them in Barcelona till we can decide what the heck it is we want to do

    with them.
    Frigates cover some sea resources.

IBT: Steel -> Nationalism; Madrid Oxford -> Rifle; Toku Adopts Free Religon

T2: 1760 AD worker moves. building more lumbermills

IBT: Santiago Rifle -> Galleon; Salamanca Lib -> court

T3: 1765 AD ditto. Move new Rifle towards Barcelona

IBT: Barcelona Galleon -> drydock (this will be a decent shipbuilding town, and we could use

fast moving Galleons); Hurrian Conquistedor -> Galleon

T4: 1770 AD New Galleon fortifies in Barcelona. All of Toku's units within sight are junk. His rifles and

grenaders must be moving N to take on Saladin.

    IBT: Nationalism -> MT (I like cav's); Kushans Lib -> Lighthouse; Valencia granery -> Lib;

    Elizabeth makes peace with Monty

T5: 1775 AD Monty won't talk to us right now.

I have started research on MT, looks like about 3 or 4T. We can also run to Assembly Line via Corp + Steam. Corp and Steam will take ~9T, and then Ass'y Line about 11T. I'd like team input before I go for MT as some might not see any value in Cav's.

The cavalry question is really one of pillage and plunder or take and hold. If the tactics require wasting the enemy's lands while building a force big enough to capture and hold then MT by all means. So if the war aim is to weaken then cavs for pillaging with enough gunpowder muscle to protect them from counterattacks.

If we are going for take and hold then start up the road to infantry and tanks.
