The Star Wars Mod Devolopment

Ive been working on a Star Wars mod lately,

right now I'm working on the UI elements and not diving into the base game yet. Ive come up with lots of ideas and thoughts but I wanted to know what you guys think.

Here is a rough list:

- As of now since (I don't know how to edit terrains to make space), you will be able to pick a planet like Tatooine then choose between doing a 1v1, 2v2, 4v4 or 8v8 and maybe 10v10, which would make it a team battle between the Rebels and the Empire. As of now I'm working on the Empire and the Rebellion, I plan to add the Republic and CIS later.

- Instead of policies you recieve shipments from the orbiting fleet, which could be upgrades or unit shipments or both. The final shipment will give you a hero, which is Luke and Darth Vader for now.

- Instead of population we'll have Base (City=Base) Value which ranks how vital that base is on the map also giving you bonuses to production and shipments.

- Instead of specialists, they're are called droids. For instance an Astromech droid, which will help improve your base in various ways.

- I'm scratching Happiness and technology completely (Unless you guys can think of something to be put instead of them...?), to make the mod more combat base rather then civilization like. In your cities you can produce upgrades which will improve specific units in various ways and give them unique capabilities.

- To unlock new units you have to build projects just like the RED WW2 mod

- Each civilization is completely unique, every unit

- There will be city states which of course depend on the map, each city state has two unique units, if you ally with them then you have access to those units among other things.

- Command Points which are also used to get shipments, expand your territory just like culture.

Right now there are 0 3D star wars units so if any one has that skill it would be great :)

I really like the idea of star wars civ 5.

The idea of orbital deployments instead of policies is a nice idea. I think your base ideas are thought out well.

I like the UI style, if you need help with graphical stuff like Unit icons, Ui Art and other art stuff, i'm really pleased to help.
 
I've made some Faction Icons for the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. If you want to use it, i would be proud.

I know your excellent at the 2d icons, if you want you can redesign the three buttons at the top right which are Notifications, Shipments and Diplomacy (with borders) that would be great they are 80x80 i believe.

I don't know what you think of the 2d unit styles do you think it would be better like vannila civ? The other thing you can do is make unit flags since there is a lack of 3d units, it could be made up with a goodlooking unit flag.

But really do what you want, I havn't really thought out the styles of each 2d image for shipments, upgrades, projects and promotions. If you want specifics on any of those just tell me and you can make your own 2d style for those.

I could make new 2d Icons for shipments, notifications and diplomacy. Civ Icons exists in two versions, one normal and one hover version. Did you want an icon like in civ which is a represant of whats behind the button or art like you used it.

Is there a way to include a rebell and a imperial version of the UI?

Or should i make icons for notification etc. which are more the general star wars style which could used for both?

And i see that you playing with the UI for the city (base) header. Here are some ideas, which i think would fit very well in a star wars setting. I've made a rebell and a empire side to show how it work for both factions. What do you think?

It's just photoshoped, but i think, i could make the proper dds files for the ui, so you can use them if you want. But you must not, it's your decision :).

Which other factions do you plan? If you share more of your specifics than i could see what i can do for you.

For the Astromechs, should there be icons with diffrent mechs or colored versions of one astromech like the specialists? Or did you plan something diffrent with them?

This is going to be one of the greatest mods ever.
 
For Shipments, Notifications and Diplomacy buttons you can do whatever you want. I used two images for each, one that was the base button the other did the animation and like you said the vannila uses the three, so do whatever one you want.

If I knew more then the basics for the code there probably is a way to make Rebel and Imperial UI's, but I don't know how to do that yet. Maybe it's something I could try in the long run. So I would make just one general notification, diplomacy and shipments.

The city panels look great :) I'll use them. The city strength part and city panel part are seperated but I would guess if you just made it into one part it would work too. But those look great and I'll use them for sure.

For Civs After everything looks good and playable for the Empire and Rebel Alliance, I would like to add the Republic and CIS after.

For the droids/specialists I plan to have a Protocol Droid, Astromech Droid, Medical Droid, Administrative Droid and a Service droid. And probably could have a represental color for each like Astromech being blue and Protocol being Gold.

Advanced Mining - Metal Science - Particle Physics - Orbital Assets - Planetary Mechanics - Molecular Biology - Cloning - Mechanics - Microengineering.
Just a suggestion of techs or words you could add in?

Ya those are good ideas, the only thing that I was thinking is that since your not controlling the whole entire Empire or Rebellion in the galaxy it wouldn't seem likely that a certain planet would be devoloping that many large technologies, but instead maybe smaller technologies or maybe planet specific technologies. What do you think?


And has anyone gotten CityViewUIAddin to work...?
 
I'm done with the nameplates of the cities in star wars style. But i got some problems with the minor civ states. Civ5 uses the same UI-backgrundbut their cultural, military etc. logo is offset to the normal icons (at war etc).

Did you want to use minor civ states? Else i could upload the first dds for that and i could make some icons for the Shipments, Notifications and Diplomacy buttons.

ya i'm going to add minor civs, I don't know about the offset thing, maybe we could hide the cultural, miliataristic logo.

there is another star wars mod that may be dead named Moderator Action: Star Wars.even if it is dead u may find something u can use

lastly will the units be like red's modpack size or like vanilia?

Moderator Action:

I think it's dead but maybe not?

I plan to make it more like Gedemon's size units but a little bigger, since a squad of storm troopers consisted of 9 troops there will be 9 troops. A marksman team will consist of 4. A Vehicle consists of 1. And I hope to make them proportionally acurate as best I can, so the AT-AT will be huge compared to the trooper squad.
