the two most competitive economies in the world

In the centuries to come, after fossil fuels have run down, they may well become one of the worlds most powerful economies.

Alongside General Motors and Honda! :)

What happens when the car companies control both the cars and the means to run them?

Now that I think about it, probably not anything extraordinary.

Iceland's geothermal powerplants are even used to heat the (main) streets during winter time.
'Steamland' would fit better as a name I guess...:D

Vietnam is middle income... not first world, not one of the dirt poor African nations. Of course if you're absolutely intoxicated with being a westerner, you are bound to have lost your sense of scale.

Certainly it would help Vietnam if a certain sore loser had not been imposing economic sanctions... denying someone you dislike fair treatment can sometimes be a way to make them seemingly fail.

Progressive thinking like that is what can take the smallest of nations and make them powerful.

Canada, arguably the world's most resource rich nation is nowhere to be found in the top 10. Just goes to show what backward thinking can do...

Actually, we were 16th. But considering what we've got, that's beyond embarassing. Handing control of this country to a consortium of monkeys should at least put us in 5th.

And which such a low population, the GDP per capita could shoot though the roof.
