Why are are the Vikings in the trailer, yet they are not in the list of playable civs?

The most widely accepted explanation is that those are actually barbs.

Because having a Viking riding in on a ship in the trailer, naturally, was an epic thing to include? Also, I'm sure they'll show up in DLC at some point. You have to remember it's only vanilla CiV.

Vikings were only exciting for a brief period of history. Scandinavian cities are already city-states

I think the explanation that the vikings and some other civs show up as city states is also about hitting the nail on the head- it's been speculated that the next civs we'd perhaps seen in an expansion are the ones who have not been made into city states and that would be a civ like Spain for instance, iirc.

Isn't there a Sphynx in artwork for previous Civ games? They include things promotionally that aren't in the game, simply as that.

Because the trailer was not made by the same people who made the game. They most likely just took the general Idea of the game and made a trailer about it. Also, viking are badass.

:religion: thanks, could not have mentioned it again.
Leaning tower of pisa is also a good example.
Artwork, that's it. Not content, it's artwork.
