This thread is for all things military. Exploration, unit naming, and general positioning of units all belong in this thread.

As I think of more things to put in this thread, I'll edit them in.

    Hey Azza! :wavey:

    Our TaoSAN states:
So we should probably try to stick with that.
Unless you'd like to propose an amendment to the TaoSAN already? :mischief:

It's easier to keep it all in the one thread IMO.

well - for now, all we need is an exploration thread, certainly.

My thought process (voted in overwhelmingly) and spelled out in the TaoSAN are that once we have non-exploring military units, we'll want to separate out discussion for defense/military positioning/war stuff away from ongoing "move NE to the Hill" type discussion. Could get pretty messy if we don't.

If you'd like to make the case for consolidating it all into one thread, you should do so as a proposal to amend the TaoSAN.
Especially for any new people, we don't want them getting confused reading the TaoSAN about how our team works, and then not being able to find the right threads for discussion.

I agree with GW that we need to follow the rules as stated. However I would be in favor of an ammendment to combine the threads.

While a single thread might be ideal for use in maintaining a central location for updates alone, I believe that discussion of relevant topics might best be carried out in separate threads created for the express discussion of particular activities. These threads could be created on an as-needed basis and could be governed by the following list or an augmentation thereof.

Of notable consideration is the discussion of how our Military, Domestic and State plans (eg. Diplomacy, Fort Construction, Unit Training, etc.) might overlap or conflict as well as how one 'department' may be influenced by the actions or inactions of the other. This foreshadows possible sub-discussions relevant to tying together the various functions of governance into Interoperability Considerations.

Also of importance is the discussion of how to best leverage our position into a winning plan in the sense of developing a Grand Strategy. Such concepts and discussions will likely arise once we have oriented ourselves to the composition of land, available resources, rival civilizations, rate of technological advancement, etc.

All of the above discussion, planning and information must be gathered, or otherwise created, by our Team Members. Due to this, I suggest the following threads be created, as needed, to discuss the following specific topics.

Threads I view as paramount to Military Readiness:
    • Exploration
    • Defensive Planning
    • Offensive Planning
    • Naval Planning
    • Espionage and Counter-Espionage
    • Departmental Interoperability Considerations (nation building discussion)
    • Grand Strategy (setting up the end-game)
    • Et Cetera...

:hmm: Well, if I'm reading the TaoSAN correctly, we only need two threads once we've got a real non-exploring military that needs to be discussed. Right now, just renaming this thread to exploration would suffice.

Well, I honestly have never read the TaoSAN because it was too long.

Can I suggest Willem Barentsz, Cornelis Houtman and Henry Hudson as names for our exploring warriors.

On further thought, I shall start 2 threads now, Office of Exploration and Office of Designation for discussion of exploration and unit naming respectively, and keep an up-to-date summary in the early posts of this thread. If an amendment needs to be made, someone else will need to write it because writing ain't my thing.
As the need arises, I will also create the threads for Defensive and Offensive Tactics.
