Prince
I am playing my sixth attempt at trying to beat LVL 5 difficulty on Civilization. This is one beyond emperor (cheiftan is level 0). The year is 340AD and I have conquered the world. It was tough to stay ahead of the other civs with all of their handicaps, and the barbarians attacking every 5 turns made colonization difficult as well. However, through careful planning and use of every strategy I know, I was able to stay ahead in production, colonization, conquering, and technology throughout the whole game.
The best part about playing at this difficulty is that the scoring ratio is actually higher! My score was 1664. This score would be worth 33.3% on Cheiftan, 66.6% of Warlord, 99.9% on Prince, 133.1% on King, and 166.4% on Emperor. The percent score I received was 199%!! That means the ratio is 0.12% per point.
I can now go back to my last save, make the French into a pet civ, and I should be able to reach the same score levels I did at other difficulties. My previous high score was 2793 or so (or 27.9%). A similar score on this difficulty level should yeild 335%. I'm going to archive the saved game for now, though, and see if it is possible to beat the game on level 6. I am going for an all-time high score here.
For those who are interested in playing at level 5 or higher on civ1, it is unnatural and you actually have to use a "cheat" to play at those levels. You can read how to do it on my cheats page.
