So there is a guy standing in the open with a gun on his hip. The cops say it's legal, but still, I don't want anyone with a gun near the POTUS.

And the sign he has doesn't make me feel to safe either. difference

 

I don't think guns should be afforded the right to carry.

The cops are right - it is legal in New Hampshire (and many other states). And he's not the only one there carrying a gun, he's just the only non-cop carrying it openly.

Given the host of characters that were there for the primaries, I imagine that if New Hampshire citizens were inclined to assasinate politicians it would have happened already. Multiple times.

I'm sure there's a Secret Service sniper that is keeping that guy in his crosshairs constantly.

Aside from anything else, if you were going to assassinate the president, would you be walking around with a pistol holstered on your hip? On the list of possible threats, that one is pretty far down the list.

We don't assassinate them, we shake their hands and make them kiss our babies until they agree to do our bidding.

 

I didn't doubt there was an agent "assigned" to the guy; I have a ton of faith in the Secret Service. What causes me concern is the gun. While it's obviously not going to do something on its own accord, its proximity to the President seems like an unnecessary risk.

 

Or smear the baby's forehead with arsenic.

 

I too have a ton of faith in the Secret Service, which is exactly why I am not concerned with the gun or the person openly carrying it. Ah well.

I looked on MSNBC's page and couldn't find the story - if you have seen it, what is its proximity, anyway (in feet or yards)? If it is outside 25yds or so, POTUS is at hardly any risk from it anyway.

BTW if Mr. Obama doesn´t want to attend functions where the citizenry are packing heat then maybe he should stay in the states and areas where such behavior is illegal and where no one could possibly be carrying a concealed weapon illegally.
