Thick square-wave shaped lines all over the screen

I get this weird screen, I think something is wrong with it, but this is my first time playing the game, can somebody look at the pictures and let me know it this is normal and (hopefully) how to fix it.

Also, City info is weird and can 't see the name of the city

Have you tried updating your video driver? Is your video card supported by Civ4?

Do you have any similar issues with other games? It looks to me like a faulty video card. In the worst case scenario your videocard memory is malfunctioning and you will need to get a new card to fix that.

I suspected a problem with the video card, so I updated the driver.
but I didn't find a list of compatible cards for civ IV
Do you know where to find such list?
