Due to popular request, I have reworked my Improved Territory Borders into more 'svelte' versions. As always, as you can see

    Floating

    Ground

…they still do not vex or stress the eye, and they allow interior/exterior determinance very quickly.

In other words, they look damn good and help tell you exactly where you need to plop your settlers. :)

To use, download and unzip the file you want, and place in the directory
    Civ III>Art>Terrain
Either back-up or replace the existing Territory.pcx

Again, if you have any comments, questions, requests or statements, hit me with 'em! Sound off like you got a pair!

You know, Ugurt was right; they do look much better thin, both with shadows and without. It's hard to believe it possible, but these two new ones make my originals look like crap!

Anyway, I'm really glad you guys like em; that means I'm not alone.

    Thanks!

Seems that the floating ones are exactly twice as popular as the ground ones … That may not be interesting to anyone else, but it sure spins my noggin.

I had seen these before but didn't get around to downloading them. Just did so and will be trying them out. By any chance did you ever get around to trying them pointing the opposite direction? While pointing to your territory makes sense, I like the idea of them looking like a "fence" to keep others out.

Yes, sadly, while the concept was indeed interesting and actually an exciting idea, it proved to be much more trouble than it was worth.

The simple explaination was that you could either set the borders back further (and at the same time screw up the corners) and have giant holes in the borders, or try to get them to mesh and have a blank space for like 12 pixels on every grid square, because you'd have to draw them beyond their original grids, and don't even get me started on the corners.

Revisiting this 'outward pointing' idea has gotten me thinking about quite a radical idea for borders, something that i'm sure will look good only when on flat areas of the map.

If anyone's interested in seeing something else for this ol' game, please drop me a line here and i'll mock something up. It won't be much, but you'll only see it if i'm happy with it.

I'd like to see it out of pure curiosity, I've pretty much moved on to cIV for good I think.

I would be interested in seeing it, too, and see it can look better than the current floating borders. I currently use your floating borders for my mod and they look great.

Thanks, what mod would that be, exactly?

Incidentally, anyone who wants to take any of my borders and include them in their mods is more than welcome to, without condition. I repeat: I will not threaten or sue you if you use my borders, even without permission. Firaxis (or what is it, 2k games now?) even.

And hey, can any of you guys link a good vanilla-3 savegame for me to preview my shots with? I don't download the GOTMs or anything, so all I have are my own games, which always involve me expanding very fast and not having a decent place to grab a screen from. Plus, I like the expansionism and familiar city names of America, so all you'll ever see from my screens are different shades of blue. :)

    Suggestions welcome.

I am using your originals right now(love them!!) and I am really torn about which of these to try. Both look good but I think maybe the floaters win the day. Time to fire up the old 'puter and add these in.
