Hi guys, dont get me wrong i love all the bells and whistles in latter civs ( i have bought civ 4 and civ 5) but for some reason i also like "basic" games the some people may call "dumbed down". One question do any of you think its worh buying if i find copy?

I would guess that the answer you will get from this forum is an emphatic yes.
The classic game still has the magic it had in 1991.

Definitely worth it, particularly given it's very cheap to get hold of.
I would suggest you keep an eye out on eBay and similar marketplaces; there're normally 1 or 2 available (although I have to admit it's getting harder to find copies now compared to a few years ago).

You'll probably need to run an application like DOSBOX to make it work on a recent version of Windows. I found it ran in XP on it's own, but the arrival of Vista pushed me to start using DOSBOX. You'll find plenty of instructions on how to install/use DOSBOX in other forum threads.

Enjoy!

Be warned that the Windows version is based on version 3, which was 16-bit, and is no longer directly supported by Microsoft. DOSBox offers a reasonably elegant solution to running the DOS version on modern computers, but getting 16-bit Windows applications working these days is a challenge and usually involves extra cost. Unfortunately, the Civilization packaged with Chronicles is the Windows 16-bit version. Most hardcore Civ1 fans seem to play the DOS version, so this shouldn't be a huge concern.
