About 6-7 months ago I was really into Civ IV. I posted quite a bit on these forums, mostly about specialist economy for anyone who remembers me, but I lost interest. It seemed when i got up to the highest levels in the game the only way to improve was to plane out each move way ahead of time so that I was starting each game with basically an opening script then following the same tightly set patterns. I haven't bought the last expansion, but I was thinking of starting to play again and I was just wondering how the game has changed in the last half year or so?

    I remember Iamdanthemansta.

about getting the expansion, it's a tough one. I think a lot of people have burned out with it because there was so much in it that it required a lot of play to learn just the basics.

In some ways it's all too much now, but on the other hand, a Warlords game seems very simplistic.

It's more of a fun game now. Not so serious. If you were playing the same strat over and over at high levels, then maybe BTS would be good for playing at a lower level but trying different econs and strats. That's what I do.

I went all the way back to chieftain, and started out with only one idea: how I wanted to try to win - Space, Culture and Domination so far, working through a pure Conquest game right now. It's fun to just try different ideas (most that I've picked up reading these forums) to see how they play out. Soon, I'll be stepping up the difficulty and number of AIs that I'm playing against, but I was getting pretty frustrated at how earlier games were ending in stalemates all the time. Civ is fun again!
