My neighbor who all but abandoned her house, came back earlier this week and found someone had attempted to break in. Now I don't need to tell you how fracking annoying it is to have a half abandoned house next door, the regular break in attempts and the crappy upkeep. At any rate...

She brought a dog over, supposedly to watch the house. The thing is basically left alone in that house all day and night. At first the constant barking got annoying but then I started to feel sorry, the barks sound kind of like desperation and not aggression...Added to that I haven't seen anyone come in or out for days, so I don't even know if anyone's feeding the poor thing..

It can't be legal to just leave an animal unattended like this for such long periods of time? Surely there must be something against it?

There probably is something illegal about mistreating an animal in that fashion. The exact laws would be something beyond my knowledge, however.

Even if there's nothing on the books, you could probably stick her with some kind of noise violation.

Call the plice if it sounds hungry.

If all my hours of watching Animal Cops have taught me anything, not supervising an animal in winter time is definitely illegal. CALL ANIMAL SERVICES!

Probably laws on the books regarding neglecting an animal. Also nuisance laws (because of the barking) would be applicable for adjoining property owners who are not sorry for the dog, but just annoyed.

Its neglect, etc, etc. Feed it, please! I can't stand (and I know you can't either) of anything/anyone going hungry for long periods of time. And call the cops, too.

I wouldn't quite jump into that, even out of compassion. I don't know if you could be slapped with trespassing by doing so.

I wouldn't feed the dog on the basis of it probably attacking you upon entry. Just make an anonymous call to the cops.
