This forum is filled with gentlemen and scholars

Before I forget, in addition to gentlemen we have quite a few lovely ladies here who grace us with their presence of course.

Agreed that in comparison to other sites on the internet the atmosphere here is pretty civil. Especially compared to places like youtube where reading the comments usually makes me question the state of mankind.

Indeed

This OT forum is much better then the OT forum at the Total War Center which is populated by by either raving nationalists or posters engaged in a Communism vs. Randian Libertarian debate.

Funny you should say that, because I've been posting quite a bit lately in the multiplayer forum for Shogun 2 and I decided "hey let me check out OT" thinking it must have quality blokes cut from the same cloth being the off topic section of a big name strategy game. I was sadly disappointed.

*forum hug*

There're some incredibly intelligent people here from all sorts of different backgrounds with different perspectives that I (usually) appreciate reading.

woot, there it is. woot, there it is.

The OT moderators do an amazing job, and speaking as a firmly non-OT mod, I don't know how they do it. They deserve a lot of thanks from the community.

But of course that job wouldn't achieve anything without the great members who make the site what it is. Everyone who's tried to carry on a discussion here in a constructive way, no matter what their level of knowledge, has contributed to it as a gentleman and a scholar.

That's right I said it.

You know, on the internet you come across a lot of forums and a lot of opinions. After you post here for a while, and see such quality post leaving and posting somewhere else can be jarring. When a forum is set to public and anyone can come in and post, you get all sorts of nonsense touched upon. However I must say that the quality of the post, topics and moderation on Civfanatics Off Topic board is simply a 10 out of 10.

This is not a troll or satire thread, I mean it gentlemen we've got something special here.

Cheers

I agree. We do discuss very animately but trolling is kept at bay, which is also much thanks to moderation I suppose.

:agree:

Gentlemanly and scholarly sickos.

I am a gentleman by act of Congress, and a sicko by decree of Bill3000. :D

But seriously, yes, I've checked out maybe a dozen OT-ish discussion forums over the past year or so and none have the combination of CFC's geographic/cultural breadth, activity level, and effective moderation. Props to all of you. :goodjob:

I do think the mods do an excellen job. Also, minorly rude comments are frowned upon by most members, who do want to keep it civil. There's also a good deal of patience by the members. Definitely the best forum I've seen.

Oddly enough, most other subforums (except V subforum) are often even more polite than OT.

I agree that the quality of discussion is very high compared to many other forums, but sometimes this place feels too uptight and has an "internet is serious business" feel to it. But still, the OT of CFC is the best OT forum in English I've seen.

It's all downhill now Mathilda has left :(

Is this thread going to become an orgy of reciprocal back scratching ?
No. Seeing as how I just showed up. :)

CFC is definitely better than any other chat board I've been on--and I've been on some real bad ones. But fairly often, people on this board still make mistakes they shouldn't be making. Way too many people on here follow the political stereotype of a Democrat or a Republican (or a socialist). So here's a quick exercise everybody should keep in mind in the future. No, don't post the answers, just roll them around in your brain.

If you consider yourself a liberal: think of three issues on which you agree with the Republicans.

If you consider yourself a conservative: think of three issues on which you agree with the Democrats.

Note that I said "issues". Not actions. Certainly there have been Republicans who passed environmental legislation, and Democrats who voted against Obamacare. Those don't count. I mean issues. Are you a Democrat who opposes gun control? A Republican who's an atheist? What are three ways each of you is outside the box? Again, don't answer that in here. Just remember that no independent mind should fit the cookie cutter perfectly. CFC has way too many cookie-cutter people in it.

This is very good advice, which I hope will also be taken by people who aren't Americans.

I find if you dig a little deeper into an academic subject, posters come out of the woodwork in a most positive of ways.

Looks like it - her wall has gone and she's given up being a mod...

She returned to the Great Kitchen like all great women do. Perhaps one day she will be back with sandwiches.

us smartt, good. not poop in own houze. smel good.

This forum takes itself more seriously than others, and all forum topics are pretty much debates on religion and politics, or wind up being debates on religion and politics, so its interesting to come here time to time and lurk when something major happens. Lo and behold, a few days ago Osama gets shot in the face, and the discussion is quite interesting.

Sadly, this forum doesn't really tolerate much trolling, which makes it a lot less fun and entertaining than other parts of the internets.

That only means you aren't being clever enough. :p
